Rumors Audi product, spied test mules, and prototypes.
Earlier this week we'd posted a story linking a Volkswagen Group chassis architecture guide published last week by Georg Kacher over at Automobile. Kacher's submitted another piece this week about the Porsche 551 - the so-called "Baby Boxster" that was slated to be a corporate cousin of the proposed Audi R5.
Kacher's got new details on 551, including
On again. Off again. On again. Off again. When last we heard intel on the much-rumored and much-lusted-for mid-engine Audi R5 (rendered above and proposed baby brother to the R8), the project was dead... done... kaput. Now the often extremely well connected Georg Kacher has published his latest Deep Dive column in Automobile Magazine and the piece says otherwise.
Here's an interesting take on the next-generation (MQB) RS 3 as rendered by Theophilus Chin. This image, based on a 3-door A3, takes elements from the recent Audi RS Q3 Concept and less recent Audi A1 quattro to make for one very mean-looking render. We love what we see here.
So How Accurate Is It?
From our experience with Audi, this isn't very accurate... no matter how cool we think
Our spy photographer sources have just sent us over a new set of shots of the R8 e-tron test mule of which a few photos surfaced yesterday. Photographers tell us this mule rounded the Ring quite quietly though we're checking to see if it was employing any of the e-sound elements that Audi defined recently.
Obvious e-tron design cues such as those on earlier
Greg Kable has filed a most interesting report over at AutoCar. The report involves intel on a new engine - namely a new 3.0-liter twin turbo V6. The new engine will feature twin sequential Borg Warner turbochargers and air-to-air intercooler system and internal upgrades that will result in a power output in the neighborhood of 370 bhp and 400 lb ft. The engine will be paired with
Autoblog has posted a story this week that includes at least two sets of spy photos of the upcoming facelifted R8. One set shows a black coupe and the other (partially seen above) shows a grey roadster.
In the shots you can plainly see changes to the nose, headlights, taillights and more. Shots are consistent with changes like the round R8 GT style exhaust tips standard on all models of R8 going forward. Engine
We've got a new set of Q5 spy photos from our spy photographer sources and these latest shots reveal new details. What you see here is what appears to be a non S-line version with very little disguise. Look closely and you can clearly see the hexagonal grille with no fake framing and what appears to also be the new lighting clusters with solid LED style housings.
We covered the potential purchase of Ducati by Audi story when it first broke over on CAR Magazine's website. The author was Georg Kacher, a usually reliable source who also contributes to the American buff Automobile Magazine. Kacher has since published another piece over on Automobile with some further details of the situation so we're
Two photos (one above, one via the link below) surfaced this week of what is purported to be the interior of the R8 e-tron. If that is the case (and we're guessing it is), then this begs the question of how much of these changes will also be seen in the new and facelifted audi R8 when it debuts likely at the Paris Motor Show in September.
What Do We See?
The most obvious change here is a much bigger
Automobile Magazine has published a report today from European contributor Georg Kacher - a journalist with contacts on the board level at Audi who is often privy to Audi plans early in gestation. When we catch a far-out rumor from Kacher, we often read it with interest since it speaks to the thought patterns of the Audi board though doesn't always
