It's not like we were questioning whether the upcoming Audi Q6 had been dropped from Audi's development plans, but confirmation of the car by the Volkswagen Group's design boss are worth a mention and they come from Automotive News Europe via Autoblog.
If you've been keeping track, Audi will now be in charge of initial development of large (longitudinal engine fitment)
An interesting set of new Audi spy photos came across our virtual desktop this morning, showing what outwardly may look like a Q5 but is most likely a Q6 drivetrain prototype.
Why Q6? Whatever it is, this crossover appears to be both longer and wider than the Q5. Note the extension in wheelbase added in between the front and rear doors in addition to fender arch extensions from the Audi
CAR Magazine has published a report from Georg Kacher about Audi's plans for Q-model expansion, focusing in particular on the ideas of Q6, Q4 and Q1 and pairing the piece with two proposed Q4 renders by Schulte Design that are based on photographs unlike the drawing-based render by Fourtitude's staff seen above.

As the Audi Q3 moves into production and distribution, Automobile Magazine's European contributor and usual suspect in our News & Rumors coverage Georg Kacher has filed an intel report on Ingolstadt's master plan toward crossover expansion. Turns out Q7, Q5 and now Q3 are only the beginning.
Here's a quick run-down.
The idea of the Audi Q6 popped up on our radar back in February when Audi brand group design chief Wolfgang Egger mentioned the four rings might be interested in taking on the X6, BMW's sport utility vehicle with coupe-like roofline. Then, the name Q6 showed up later in the month spoken (not surprisingly) by Automobile Magazine's/Car Magazine's Georg Kacher.
Audi AG CEO Rupert Stadler raised a few eyebrows at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January when he confirmed that Audi was still very much considering a North American production point. Just how this manifests itself remains to be seen, but Automobile's Georg Kacher thinks he may have an idea... at least in part.
