With the first images and details about the new RS 3 Sportback dropped on news outlets this morning, we headed on over to Audi's German market website to see if we could build our own virtual RS 3 in the configurator. Alas, the latest RS car hasn't yet been added to the German site's build-your-own section but that hasn't stopped Audi AG from rolling out a whole second set of
If you were a kid when the Audi ur quattro was ripping up the rally scene then you likely remember a day when the toy designers at Radio Shack were a bit more worldly - pushing R/C cars like the Martini Porsche 935 or Audi's own quattro... well before the monster truck cheese peddled today. If you remember those days and care to revisit them, we've found just the thing(s).
Today is the first press day of the 2010 LA Auto Show and, as expected, Audi has stacked its booth with all North American launch automobiles. While there's nothing as-of-yet-unseen being revealed, there's plenty to see that hasn't yet made a showing Stateside in the past.
Among the mix are these highlights.
• Audi quattro Concept
It was more than rumor that an S1 would display at last September's Paris Motor Show. Even the official website for the industry event listed an S-car version of Audi's hot-selling A1 3-door. In the end sources at Audi told us the car was pulled from the Paris lineup.
In a new story by AutoExpress, the British automotive news magazine suggests that the original
According to British buff book AutoCar, Audi is seriously considering a production version of its Paris show stopper the quattro Concept. AC's source is none other than quattro GmbH boss Stefan Reil who suggested Audi has had a team of dedicated engineers in Ingolstadt 'advancing plans that it be approved'. Should that happen, the car will be built in limited numbers
Perhaps not surprisingly, the Audi quattro Concept shown in Paris seems to have been the star of the show. With a longitudinally mounted version of the 5-cylinder turbo FSI engine from the Audi TT in a lightened and shortened A5/S5 derived chassis, the car certainly struck a cord in many who saw it there or lusted over photos online. Even more interesting then is this design model shown tucked away
No Audi R8 for GTC
One very disappointing comment made by ALMS series President Scott Atherton in his State of the Series address was on 2011 plans for the GTC class. Close to GT3 specs in which the R8 LMS already competes in Europe, the GTC class will soldier on with 2010 and 2011 Carrera Cup spec Porsche 911s and be limited to a field of 10.
Nothing against the Porsches
Spending the weekend on location at the American Le Mans Series' Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta this past weekend we were immersed in news about any potential Audi LMP participation for the 2011 season via Audi Sport staff. There's both good news and bad news to report.
Audi has confirmed that it plans to race the full season of ILMC rounds
We've just added a photo gallery from tonight's Volkswagen Group Night of Driving Ideas. Included in the presentation were the Audi quattro Concept and the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept. Look for more coverage from Paris this week.
Left Lane News has published a set of Carpix spy photos where the photographer captured what is believed to be an Audi S7 test mule undergoing testing. Please note, the image above is a mockup by our staff. We'd posted one image with the intent to push readers to see the rest at Left Lane News but they've blocked that so read below for more information on where
