Audi's "e" development wing set with the task of planning electric mobility for the four rings may be based in Ingolstadt but it appears production of their first product, known simply as "e-tron" will go to Neckarsulm. Audi has never made a secret that it intends to build this R8-like Ur e-tron as a starter for the e-tron brand as it becomes synonymous with electric Audi products much like quattro has with all-wheel drive. Still, it was news that the company's Neckarsulm plant would get the nod for production.
Perhaps Neckarsulm isn't a surprise since it already builds specialty cars like the R8 and the RS range of Audi product and Audi boss Rupert Stadler expanded upon that sentiment as he explained it this week.

He also said that by choosing this site, it means that the site will “continue to play an important role in the future.” Sometime in the later part of 2012, the initial batches of Audi’s electric super car will be released.
