Former Audi product strategy executive Matthias Mueller was named today the new chief executive officer of the Porsche brand, replacing Michael Macht who moves to a position as Volkswagen production chief. Mueller is credited with masterminding Audi's successful move into additional niche vehicles, expertise that will serve him well as Volkswagen plans to double Porsche sales in such a fashion.
Previously with Audi, Mueller was part of the group of top management who followed former Audi AG boss Martin Winterkorn to Wolfsburg when he assumed the helm of the Volkswagen Group. The product strategy specialist is credited by outlets such as BusinessWeek (linked below) as being well integrated into the Volkswagen Group's own executive network and knows how to make things happen. In fact, Mueller is the first executive from VAG to take the helm of Porsche since the brand's turnaround acquisition by Volkswagen since his predecessor Macht was chosen from the Porsche side of the fence after the departure of Wendalin Wiedeking.
