Given it's a whole new component set, smaller than the upcoming modular transverse MQB architecture, not much is known of the upcoming small car platform planned to underpin the upcoming Audi A2. Various Volkswagen-branded Up! concept cars have been shown at auto show after auto show but that's the closest we've seen of the so-called "Up-platform" until now. CAR Magazine has published spy photos of a production Up (possibly to be called Lupo) undergoing hot weather testing in California.
Unlike the first-generation Audi A2 and its costly Audi Space Frame (ASF) technology, this new A2 will keep costs down by sharing the Up architecture. Likely there will be 1.0 and 1.2 TFSI and TDI variants but the big news about the A2 is that an electric e-tron version is also in the works.
