On His Way to Becoming "Mr. Nurburgring", Timo Bernhard

Rate this Entry

When Tom Kristensen went and broke Jacky Ickx's all-time wins record at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Dane earned his nickname "Mr. Le Mans". One might note there is no current "Mr. Nurburgring", but Audi Sport regular Timo Bernhard is working on it thanks to his win this past weekend at the wheel of a Manthey Porsche 911.

With his last win, Bernhard moves up to five outright victories here, matching records by Marcel Tiemann and Peugeot Sport Le Mans driver Pedro Lamy. To earn the nickname, he'll have to nab another win. And while that won't be easy, Timo is perhaps best positioned to make it happen. As a driver, he's a regular for Manthey Racing who's the winningest team here. He's also got a factory contract with both Porsche and Audi. Were we betting on the first driver to reach six wins, we like Timo's odds.
