We've just found a video on Vimeo that is visually captivating for over thirteen minutes. Focused mainly on the Audi, BMW, Lexus and Ferrari teams gunning for an outright win, the piece was filmed entirely on the Canon 5D MkII by German filmographers Tim and Nick Hahne.
If the camera choice surprises you it shouldn't. Rumor is that George Lucas has been using the Canon for some shots in his latest filmmaking.
There's no dialog in the story, just perfectly volumed engine notes and race sounds combined with a mix soundtrack sampling everything from club music to Ben Folds 'She's a Brick' creatively added to let you know that it's "6AM" and the "car seat is freezing".
The Hahnes also used Magic Bullet for color correction to give the car a slightly sublime and dreamy feel and excellently edits close up documentary style shots of everything from cars on track, pit work and jovial drivers prepping on the grid. Truly the piece is a benchmark showing the capabilities of what can be done with a reasonably priced camera and software pack.
