    Porsche Plans Audi Q5-derived Cajun. Intel Examined.

    It's no secret that Porsche is working on a baby Cayenne known internally as Cajun and set to be based on the same MLB matrix used for the Audi Q5 and said to share a fair amount with the four-ringer crossover. No surprise then that the Cajun test mule shown above and running laps at Nurburgring simply wears Q5 bodywork. Of course, there will be differences when Cajun goes to market and perhaps the addition of the Porsche will open new windows for MLB-based Audis and specifically the Q5 as well. CAR Magazine's German correspondent (and our E.F. Hutton) Georg Kacher has filed an intel report on the Cajun. We've run a quick summary of what sticks out to us from the report as well as a link to the original story below.

    First up, the Cajun won't share really anything with the Q5 visually. The Volkswagen Group is better than virtually anyone at brand differentiation and the Cajun is said to be 30mm shorter at rear overhang, the roof will be 20mm lower and width jumps 15mm.

    Further the Cajun and the Q5 won't even share a production line. Kacher reveals the Cajun will be built in the Porsche Leipzig plant.

    More interesting is the engine selection. Familiar Audi powerplants including the 2.0 TFSI, 2.0 TDI, 3.0 TFSI and 3.0 TDI will all be utilized and all receive a roughly 20hp power bump. Even more interesting, a proposed Cajun Turbo S is planned that will use a Porsche developed 350-hp 3.0 liter turbocharged V6.

    This last part is most interesting to us. This means the Porsche 3.0 turbo is compatible with the MLB architecture for production. We've heard rumors before (from Kacher) that a 3.0 Turbo might drop in an upcoming derivative of the Q5, a derivative that is being examined because further Cajun body styles are also planned... namely a coupe. Might this 3.0 Turbo become a real turbocharged 3.0 TFSI for Audi as well? All indications seem to suggest that is the case. The Volkswagen Group likely wouldn't green light two twin turbocharged 3.0 V6s for longitudinal use.
