It's been brought to our attention that we may have been mistaken in our reporting of Martin Tomczyk landing over at BMW. The news was brought to our attention outside of Audi and when the Audi press release confirming Tomczyk's departure was announced we assumed it was confirmed. As of this writing, Martin's move to BMW has NOT been confirmed.
So where is he headed? We're not sure yet as the Audi release that is also printed on Martin Tomczyk's own website does not state his intent. We've cross-checked with the DTM PR machine as well as that of BMW Motorsport and have not found any news there either.
BMW has confirmed that they've picked up Mercedes-Benz driver Bruno Spengler and he's already been testing the M3 DTM. Other than that, there's been no further confirmation of BMW signed drivers and a recent test by BMW in Monteblanco, Spain was even cut down to two days from three when Spengler fell ill. It appears there was no other driver on hand with whom they could test the car.
Back to Tomczyk, Martin also raced at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring this season in a TT RS racecar and it is possible that this may have caused him to be bitten by the endurance bug. Maybe a move to an endurance team is in order though the seats at Team Joest are already filled.
Time will tell. For now we'll wait to hear his news and we apologize for any confusion we may have caused. Thanks Corey for the tip in catching our mistake.
