Loved this color green. Overheard someone saying it was a custom color 1/1 in the US. There was a 356 in the same color which pulled in quick and left again. We waited for it to return as they had planned to park them next to each other, but the kid wasn't having it after a while.

Apparently there were several Porsches being brought to the gtg from a collection (not sure if it was all one persons) and one of the older ones caught fire during the ride over. Some of the other guys ran to Kringle Candle, grabbed extinguishers, and went back. :(

I had never seen one of these in person. Pretty sharp looking car.
The little one's first car show/gtg. She was pretty entertained for the most part.

A friend of mine is in Tech school now in WF Texas and he described these issues to me today. "When I turn my air on, my car idles rough and shakes." He tried to go to a Maxima forum but they are really elitist douches who do not even respond. So I figured the very knowledgeable and generally helpful people of The Car Lounge might be able to help out.

More of the description of his A/C problems.

"I have been driving with it off, just because I do not want to throw the belt or **** some **** up and not be able to make it home
It runs fine with it off. If I turn on just the blower to move air it is fine also."

My friend believes it might be his compressor seizing up or a belt problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

*Aston Martin Shows New Design Direction With CC100 Speedster Concept*

Aston Martin has splurged on a present for itself as the company celebrates...

Aston Martin Shows New Design Direction With CC100 Speedster Concept

Aston Martin has splurged on a present for itself as the company celebrates its 100th birthday this year. The British automaker has built a special one-off car called the CC100 Speedster Concept, whose styling pays homage to the legendary Aston Martin DBR1 race car from the 1950s, while also giving an idea of what future production cars will look like.

Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin’s CEO, drove the CC100 Speedster Concept in a parade lap around the Nurburgring before the start of a 24-hour race that kicks off today at the German track, which is notorious for being one of the most punishing in the world.

The Aston Martin CC100 Speedster Concept borrows the open-top “speedster” body style from the DBR1. But it dispenses with the windshield and adds huge cutouts in the so-called “swan wing” doors, which open at an upward angle and are a hallmark of modern Aston Martins.

The DBR1 debuted in 1956 and won the 24 Hours of Nurburgring three years in a row, starting in 1957. It also won the grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in 1959, cementing its heroic status.

“We wanted to create something that, while celebrating our first 100 years, is also forward looking and gives a glimpse as to our future,” says Aston Martin design director Marek Reichman. “Using the iconic DBR1 as inspiration we have a speedster concept that gives a nod to those cars of 1959 but offers a new take on the form.” Reichman worked with chief exterior designer Miles Nurnberger to create the CC100.

The CC100 Speedster Concept uses a version of the company’s potent 6-liter V12 engine and a six-speed automated manual transmission, whereas the DBR1 had a much smaller six-cylinder engine and traditional five-speed manual. The concept car will do 0 to 60 miles per hour in four seconds. Top speed is limited to 180 miles per hour.

Markham, Ontario-based parts supplier Multimatic Inc., helped Aston Martin create the CC100 Speedster Concept’s carbon fiber body and interior. While there won’t be an Aston Martin speedster with huge cutouts in the doors hitting showrooms anytime soon, the company says certain aspects of the the design, such as the modern take on the shape of the traditional Aston Martin grille, will influence future road cars.

The distinct crease separating the front fenders and hood is another example. It creates a concave surface that, when looking at the car straight on, draws the eye up the hood and around the car. Aston Martins don’t typically use such concave surfaces (or, as designers call them, “negative” surfaces).

Aston Martin stopped short of saying when we can expect a new sports car that incorporates these new design details. A spokesman called the CC100 Speedster Concept’s design “pretty radical,” which it is when compared to Aston Martin’s current production cars. But it’s definitely not so radical when compared to other, more flamboyant concepts such as the Lamborghini Egoista. And that’s a good thing.

Aston Martin’s tasteful restraint when it comes to design, as well as its reliance on alluring proportions and subtle, well-crafted details over fantastical styling conceits, has always set its cars apart and elevated them to among the most beautiful in the industry.

The backdrop of the Nurburgring endurance race, officially called the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race, is important, even though the CC100 Speedster Concept will not run the whole race. Automakers use such endurance races as a platform to prove their engineering prowess. Many cite the pedigree of past race cars, as Aston Martin is doing with the DBR1, as a selling point for their road cars.

Aston Martin is running three cars in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring: a full race-spec V12 Vantage GT3, a near-road-spec V12 Vantage N24, and an experimental Rapide S that runs on hydrogen, which you can read more about here.

Only 2 of 13 small SUVs do well in crash tests

DETROIT—Only two of 13 small SUVs performed well in front-end crash tests done by an insurance industry group, with several popular models faring poorly in the evaluations.
Subaru's 2014 Forester was the only vehicle to get the top "good" rating in the results released Thursday. The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was rated as "acceptable." But fast-selling models such as the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Jeep Wrangler received only "marginal" or "poor" ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Small and midsize SUVs, which get decent gas mileage and have the cargo and passenger space of larger SUVs, are among the fastest-growing segments of the U.S. auto market. Sales grew 50 percent from 2005 to last year, when U.S. consumers bought more than 2.5 million of them, according to Ward's AutoInfoBank.

The IIHS ratings are influential because many auto shoppers find them while researching vehicles on the Internet. The group says its crash tests and ratings are designed to get automakers to improve the crashworthiness of their vehicles.

The ratings are for the institute's "small overlap" crash test that covers only 25 percent of a vehicle's front end. The test was added to the IIHS evaluations last year, with the institute aiming to push automakers into bolstering the crash resistance of their vehicles.

The group's tests are more stringent than the U.S. government's full-width front crash test. The institute says that in many

vehicles, a crash affecting one-quarter of the front end misses the main structures designed to absorb the impact of a crash. Yet such crashes account for nearly a quarter of the collisions that cause serious or fatal injuries to people in the front seats, IIHS said.
The new Ford Escape, the top-selling small SUV so far this year, got a "poor" overall rating, while Honda's CR-V, the No. 2 seller, got a "marginal" rating. Toyota's RAV-4, another big seller, hasn't done the testing yet because Toyota asked for a delay to improve the vehicle's structure, the IIHS said.

Other SUVs getting "poor" ratings were the Jeep Patriot, Buick Encore, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tuscson, the institute said. The BMW X1, Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX-5, Volkswagen Tiguan and Jeep Wrangler two-door all got "marginal" ratings.

Ford said in a statement that the Escape is safe because it is equipped with advanced safety features and a structure designed to manage the impact of a crash. But the company said it takes new developments in crash performance seriously.

The Forester and Outlander Sport each received the IIHS' coveted "Top Safety Pick Plus" award because they performed well in multiple tests including the small offset crash. Many of the other SUVs, including the Escape and CR-V, won "Top Safety Pick" designations, but didn't get the "plus" due to their performance in the small offset tests. Only 20 vehicles across all car segments have received the IIHS "Top Safety Pick Plus" award.

"With the redesigned Forester, Subaru's engineers set out to do well in our new test, and they succeeded," Joe Nolan, the institute's vice president of vehicle research, said in a statement. "This is exactly how we hoped manufacturers would respond to improve protection."

All SUVs tested, except the Forester, were 2012 or 2013 models. The institute said tests of 2012 models were valid because no significant design changes were made between model years.

Honda said in a statement that the CR-V earned a Top Safety Pick award, which was the best when it was introduced in 2011. The company would not comment when asked if it's reworking the CR-V so it does better in the small offset test.

Chrysler said the Wrangler and Patriot both meet or exceed all government safety requirements and perform well in real-world driving. Like most of the vehicles tested, both were designed before the IIHS added the small offset test.

The IIHS tests have a big impact on car-buying decisions because people are concerned about safety when they shift to smaller vehicles, said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of auto sales forecasting for LMC Automotive, an industry consulting firm. People buy the small SUVs, which also are called crossovers, or CUVs, because they perceive them to be safer than cars, he said.

The test results "could impact sales of these models, but more so with families and with parents purchasing these for their kids," he said in an email.

IIHS conducts its small offset test by crashing vehicles into a fixed 5-foot-tall barrier at 40 mph to simulate collisions with a utility pole or tree. The institute gives vehicles demerits when the structure intrudes into the passenger compartment, or if a crash dummy suffers injuries to head, neck, chest or other parts of the body. The group also measures how well seat belts and air bags protect people. "Good" is the top rating, followed by "acceptable," then "marginal" and "poor."

IIHS is a nonprofit research group funded by auto insurance companies.

Italian tuner Romeo Ferraris is set to release one of its creations free at the 2013 Gumball 3000 Rally and the company has just released a teaser video showing the vehicle getting ready for the adventure.

We are talking about the Abarth Cinquone Stradale, which is the tuner’s street version of the Abarth 500 racer. Romeo Ferraris released the development back in 2011, but they may have something new for the Gumball.

This may be a tiny machine, but it sure packs a lot of punch, as its turbocharged 1.4-liter engine has been pushed to 300 hp. The extreme technical package is dressed in a wide body kit that manages to change the identity of the Fiat 500 Abarth.

The driver and his passenger are treated with motorsport-inspired elements, such as bucket seats and a rollcage, as well as lightweight Alcantara trim.
Pulled into a local diner for breakfast this morning and a newer Ford pick-up pulled in next to us. I was first struck at the size difference and second, IMO, by the lack of style.

I'm a big Ford truck fan. That's all I buy for my business, but they sure are ugly.

My girl went with her mother from Cleveland to Boston to visit her sister. They took her mother's car, a 2000 Kia Sephia.

They were flagged down on their way by a helpful trucker who reported that they were dumping a lot of smoke out of the exhaust. I advised to check the coolant and oil levels, and they reported back that the engine oil was 2 quarts low. They added 2 quarts, and then drove 200 more miles. They stopped to check again and reported that the engine was almost 2 quarts low again.

So I assume the rings are shot. How long will the car keep going with blow-by like that? If the answer is "not long", are there any snake oil products they could add which might help temporarily reduce the oil consumption so they can get back to Cleveland?

Trail Days is an annual event held in Damascus, which is right on the Appalachian Trail. Hikers from all over the world attend. I used to go all the time when I lived there. It's about the most laid back festival you can imagine. :(

DAMASCUS, Va. — An elderly driver plowed into dozens of hikers marching in a Saturday parade in a small Virginia mountain town and investigators were looking into whether he suffered a medical emergency before the accident.

About 50 to 60 people suffered injuries ranging from critical to superficial, but no fatalities were reported. Three of the worst injured were flown by helicopter to area hospitals. Their conditions weren't immediately available.

Another 12 to 15 victims were taken to hospitals by ambulance and the rest were treated at the scene, where some paramedics and other first-responders were participating in the parade.

It happened around 2:10 p.m. during the Hikers Parade at the Trail Days festival, an annual celebration of the Appalachian Trail in Damascus, near the Tennessee state line about a half-hour drive east of Bristol.

Damascus Police Chief Bill Nunley didn't release the driver's name or age but said he was participating in the parade and he had traversed the Appalachian Trail in the past. Multiple witnesses described him as an elderly man.

Nunley said the man's 1997 Cadillac was one of the last vehicles in the parade and the driver might have suffered an unspecified medical problem when his car accelerated to about 25 mph and struck the crowd on a two-lane bridge along the town's main road. The driver was among those taken to hospitals.

"It is under investigation and charges may be placed," Nunley said.

Witnesses said the car had a handicapped parking sticker and it went more than 100 feet before coming to a stop.

"He was hitting hikers," said Vickie Harmon, a witness from Damascus. "I saw hikers just go everywhere."

Amanda Puckett, who was watching the parade with her children, ran to the car, where she and others lifted the car off those pinned underneath.

"Everybody just threw our hands up on the car and we just lifted the car up," she said.

Keith Neumann, a hiker from South Carolina, said he was part of the group that scrambled around the car. They pushed the car backward to free a woman trapped underneath and lifted it off the ground to make sure no one else was trapped.

"There's no single heroes. We're talking about a group effort of everybody jumping in," he said.

Nunley cited quick action by police, firefighters, paramedics and hikers to tend to the victims, including a volunteer firefighter who dove into the car to turn off the ignition. The firefighter, whose name wasn't released, suffered minor injuries.

Mayor Jack McCrady encouraged people to attend the festival on Sunday, its final day.

"In 27 years of this, we've never had anything of this magnitude, and is it our job to make sure it doesn't happen again," he said.
