New member here... I wasn't sure where to post this so I apologize if it appears in more than one category.

I have been passionate about cars since I first learned to talk. I soon realized, however, that none of the cars sold today fit my needs, tastes, and budget, so I decided a resto-mod project would be the best way to achieve my automotive goals. I am strongly considering purchasing a Mk I Scirocco, and swapping in a 1.9L TDI engine from an A4 Volkswagen, to use as a daily driver. This combination creates the ultimate vehicle in my mind, combining the fuel economy and torque of the TDI with the agile, light-weight Scirocco chassis. Not to mention the shape of Mk I Scirocco is beautiful!

I am curious if anyone on this forum has performed this engine swap. My searches have yielded results for TDI Mk II Sciroccos but not for Mk I's. I would like to get an idea of approximately how much time and money this will cost me before diving in head-first. I do have experience with engine transplants, but only for same model cars. I have never taken an engine and put it in a completely different car.

I'm under the impression that there are differences in the the size of the intake boots between 8v's and 16v's, however my question is more towards the differences between 16v's and the Volvo intake boots that connect to the fuel distributors.

Does anyone one know what the diameters are between these (16V vs Volvo's) even further does anyone know is there is an appropriate boot aside from the volvos to use over that FD.

The question comes from attempting to adapt the older calloway inter cooler pipes to the volvo FD intake boot.
