      That's what leads me to believe that IronX reacts with the oxide and removes the brown stain ( which is the oxide ) but not the iron filing itself thus claying is required to remove that.

      I usually clay off the protrusion themselves then I use my PC etc and a fine polish to remove the brown discoloration. I find this way doesn't subject the finish to the scratching.
