the stud in the rear is accessible from the interior floor pan
you will need to cut open the metal to access it
(under the brake/accel pedals)
rotate it clockwise to tighten the belt
doing it counterclockwise will cause the tensioner to be too close to the timing covers
engine sounds fine but you have some hitting noise from somewhere
use the screw which fits the throttle body.
newer idle adjuster screws are shorter yes, and they should have a slot in them for a screwdriver
although even fully seated you should still be able...
do it now while its off.
also do the transmission seals before putting it on the engine
not on the turn signals
but there are rubber seals on the rear side markers
and the tail lights have rubber seals.
there ARE 2 different seals
chrome trim grooved seal

the fox center console is a different design
having taken one out to take the entire 5speed shifter assembly for a customer i can verify it wont simply go into your mk1 without modification
the mk3 drums are different if they have ABS brakes
as far as parts are concerned, they are the same part numbers for a mk1 200mm or a mk3/mk4 200mm
the backing plate may change over the years...
the seal should be the same
the difference was early 75-80 hatches did not have cut outs for the wiper system
81-84 models had 2 cut outs for the washer bottle and the wiper motor even if it...

or damaged wires on the speedometer box on the cable, not sure if jettas have those
power assisted brakes require the vacuum from the engine to release pressure on the brakes
which is why all power brakes will stiffen up if the engine is off.
manual brakes obviously dont suffer...
there are nylon type bushings on the rods which the brake and clutch pedal ride
check them that they havent disentegrated.
