I am pretty sure the block is different, as in wont work with out extensive machining.

You should look for an 06A/B family of blocks. 1.8t/2.0L will work.

You need a FSI 2.0L crankshaft and...

immo on/off can be done via obd which he should have if he is planning on running the ME ecu.

worst case is boot mode (depends which software you use) to write which requires grounding a pin no...

winner. 24v is going in my mk2 as we speak.

      I've had 1.8t's and VR's.

Tune a 1.8t and its faster than a VR.

If you're building a motor for serious power it doesn't much make a difference...

You can likely do it yourself. If you have a vag-com cable (not using vag-com software).

      haha. The timeless debate.

      only you can decide.

you cannot delete immo with vag-com.

you need someone with ecu reading/writing tools and they can code it out thus you don't need any cluster/keys/etc

      Where are you located.

      how many miles?

If its over 150 and the chains haven't been done I'd put that into consideration.

I'd guess that your state inspectors aren't that keen to knowing what a swapped vehicle should have, or an 89 VW for that matter.

Being Pre-OBDII they also wont be able to plug in and ask it. I'd...

Im concerned with your coolant routing, it looks like you have 2 pressures feeding the coolant reservoir and not a loop style system.

I'd check the bentley for the flow diagram or the 1.8t forum....
