4th gear in 020 trans is splined to the pinion shaft and fix with a shoulder on the bottom and circlip on the top.
even with the proper 2.5mm circlip the gear has .015in axial play. IE, I can...

regarding that nasty undercoating, a heat gun and putty knife seem to work pretty well.

i was hoping for no plastic problems. don't want to deal with returns. I didn't see anyone complaining about the ECS parts so I'm holding out hope.
leaking from the interface between the housing and thermostat cover piece.

There is no gasket, just the o-ring.
I took it apart, looks fine, still leaks....
I just installed the ECS water pipe and thermostat housing kit on a 98 VR6 GTI.

the front hose apparently fails too at the hood hinge.
