My 350K miles 99.5 TDI will 100% disagree with this post. Still as tight as it was new. Feels like a relatively newish car.

I think VW age way better than most jap and american cars on the road....

Looking boring is better than looking like turd which is what most "exciting" designs look like in around 5 years.

I agree with most of your points although VW already has a 12 year transferable unlimited mileage rust warranty. For a while they were changing fenders on 10+ year old MK4s because they put foam...

Not impressed with the about of rippling that happen, especially the broke tail light.

I think option 3 is probably the better of them if they have the same motor although without seeing pics of the damage of the corolla its hard to say for sure. Rear quarter damage is a PITA to fix...

Honestly, the best thing VW can do is improve their abysmal dealership network. It really does astound me how bad the VW dealerships really are and especially the service departments. VW also needs...

Pshh..all of you with baby VWs...pretty soon I won't have a VW in the driveway under 200K.

By far the best thing I learned is, do not go to the dealer for service work, ever. VW dealers are just...

Ok here's an opinion coming from someone who has owned several TDIs and keeps up with the current generations.

The ALH series were by far the most bulletproof TDIs made. They did have their...

Cylinder bore wear/oil consumption would be a concern for me. Look for blue smoke when idling around and accelerating. The bores tend to egg out after high miles depending how it was treated in its...

I think MK4s make awesome beater/commuter cars because they are really rust resistant, comfortable, fun enough to drive to keep things interesting, and parts are everywhere now. A2.slo and a manual...

What I am saying is if both cars are TDI, why not use the 02 TDI harness that's in the car now? Then you don't have to swap anything other than the engine.

Uncharted waters. Biggest problem is there is no standalone ECU setup for them and the OE ECU is very complex and hard to remap. They are also complex engines with lots of crap on them.
