Very very cool. I didn't know if syncros had been developed yet when it started, was kind of surprised to see they had been.

Jetta: it's an auto and the iPod interface is stupid
      Cherokee: it's a unibody
Volvo: terrible mpg (but 5 cylinder goodness)
Bike: people think I'm a douche who does wheelies and stuff

I don't see many around here, sadly, but the last three I've seen have been yellow/ silver. I can't remember ever seeing one that wasn't yellow.

Patrikman, awesome car. Your collection rules.

I can get some gear marking compound to check the backlash lateral movement. I haven't touched the pinion, so pinion depth is still okay. I was thinking the same as you referring to bearing...

And that's why I paged you, you're the experienced Jeep guru 'round these parts.

Like I said, I didn't even need to remove any of it. I took out the carrier just like I would take it out...

Well the bearing caps actually get loaded by the side screw adjusters during backlash setup. The instant you remove the carrier, the bearing caps and adjusters need to be re installed to proper...

I think this is a cool idea. If you don't mind driving through hundreds of miles of flat farm lands, then take the eastern shore of the bay. If you want cool sights, try to stick closer to Appalachia.

It's funny that you posted that write up, because I have had that open in a tab on my phone for about a week now. I know how adjust it and what not, I'm just not sure if my driver-side carrier...
    9. Paging deucestudios and also anyone here who knows about differentials

I'm in the process of rebuilding my '96 Cherokee. I have already rebuilt the engine and installed it. That part is good.

I decided that while my Jeep was down, I would swap the stock...

Meh. It looks pretty boring. I'm sure it drives great, but I just can't get excited about it. It doesn't seem remarkable in any way at all.

Except that my car doesn't have a readout, and I hand calculate every tank of gas.

I believe my Jetta is rated 29mpg highway, and I've gotten two 39+mpg tanks (I have the 2.5). For a while, I regularly went into the low to mid 30s for a whole tank.

I got 21mpg in my Cherokee...

Maybe you should divide the budget and buy two cars: one daily turd and one fun car. If you split it to spend say $10k on a beater and $20k on a nice, fun car, you'll probably be happier. It seems...

This is a much more useful truck than a '95 T100. The thing is, someone with a '95 T100 with 200k miles will try to get $10k for it. The diesel is more truck for the money, and more justifiable.

It's actually much different. Air- vs water- cooled is a fundamentally different argument than auto vs manual.
