No, it wasn't fried... It was a software issue not hardware. Go play with your PnP module.

BTW... The ECM was not fried as your title states, it needed a reflash. Sound like the APR dealer could have got you going way sooner.
Seriously, you sound like a tool. Why would APR pay for a six hour tow when you said the nearest APR dealer is aprox 70 miles away. Sure, you where inconvenienced some but VWoA picked up the tab so...
