      Sure could be. But it could be a lot of things. Does the trunk latch pull power from the lighter fuse? Where are they grounded? In the car, are those wires grounded properly? No shorts?

      Check grounds in the trunk, look for the trunk latch on the wiring diagram, and find it's ground location. if there is a bad ground, power will feed between circuits and cause odd problems.
