Find the chassis grounds for the lights harness....brown wires perhaps with a green stripe - look for a bad/corroded connection. Perhaps someone familiar with the chassis grounds can chime in.

My 2010 Wagon had a rear drain that was physically blocked by the gas tank filler neck inside the right rear wheelwell.
I removed the headlights because the housing alignment, in my opinion, was off. The leading edge of the hood ( aka bonnet to the British folks) was overextended above the headlight housing.

Should they be removed since they act like sponges and hold moisture against the fenders?
I removed similar sponges from my 2001 Jetta TDI without any ill effects.
