So, my life has changed and I now commute via train Mon-Friday into NYC, and I really have no need for a "practical" car anymore for commuting and no need to worry about...
This is exactly what I do (I won't say the specific items I look for, because I don't need any other local competition ;))

I probably make about 10K a year on the side by buying stuff cheap on Craigslist and reselling on ebay. It's pretty easy, just need to know the value of certain items and be willing to drive a few...
