What happens a lot too is the factory will simply continue producing tires and put fake numbers on them. If they are contracted to build a tire for 12 hours a day, they'll build them for 15 and grey...
This happens for about a month a year total, and only at certain times of day. So you have optimal tires 11+ months of the year running two sets.
