Well, it's winter and you have a roof rack, so your gas mileage is going to be pretty bad.
You could try experimenting and take off the rack for a tank and see what happens.
I got rid of my A/C, even though I live in AZ. I daily in the summer but I just roll the windows down and open the sunroof.
Do you have a roof rack? When I had mine on, my MPG dropped quite a bit.
