Are they bolted in place? They have to be in the right orientation for the belt to come out :)

Could it have been something like detonation or running very lean that caused the pistons to melt rather than engine temperature? Ignition timing, bad gas, air leak, etc?

Ick! No sawzall there then. Didn't know B6s had fluid bushes in the control arms, or anywhere other than motor mounts tbh. Looks like a press is probably the only option then.

I had the poor fitting problem both front and rear on a B5. They were all far too big - freezing didn't even come close to getting them small enough. In the end I turned them down in a lathe.

      I...

I meant with fitting. Expect a lot of modification. 034 claim that the subframes are made to really poor tolerances, but in reality their bushes are just the wrong size. Well, both sets I've fitted...

Another vote for POR-15 or similar. Powdercoating never holds up for long on stuff like that - it seems to give way at sharp corners and then the rust gets back in and it just flakes off. I blast...

Transverse yes, but the donor transmission is longitudinal, which has a different bellhousing, starter, flywheel etc. Stock, its compatible with 4, old 5, 6 and 8 cylinder, and can be adapted to fit...

That ^ won't easily fit a Passat transaxle without a lot of machining. If it'll take a V6 though, it will take a V8 too. Plenty of potential there :)

Those will definitely work. Stock B5 16s are ET45 so the B6s will sit a little bit further out but certainly won't cause any clearance problems  205 55 16 is stock tire size for 16s.

Mmm hard to tell from the pics whether they are the 17s or 18s. Specs show the 17 is 7" with ET54, which I think would be really pushing it for clearance to the strut, caliper, and even the inner...

I tried some D3 'fat fives' on my aforementioned A6 - 8.5x18, and weigh about 30lbs each plus tire. They looked good, but it was horrible to drive. It wouldn't turn, stop or go because of the...

Not surprised at all. The BBC was entirely complicit in these 'incidents' since they chose to broadcast them in the first place. Why? Publicity and ratings simple as that. Top Gear brings in more...
