I think that is the wrong one. You need the NLA sender with transfer pump unit 533919051F for an 87 16V. Check the Scirocco classifieds for someone parting a later model (85-88) model S2.
You probably have the correct info about the bumper mounts. That 84 in the pictures is about the only MK2 I have worked on. I stick to the originals :)

All Sciroccos MK1 (75-81) or MK2 (81-88) are on the A1 chassis platform as well as the MK1 Rabbit(Golf)(75-83), Jetta (79-84) and MK1 Cabriolet (79-92).
Short answer is yes they will fit.

So you took the battery out of the car to be charged? Maybe check to see if you got all the wires connected back to the battery terminals? Sometime there are wires attached to the battery lead...
