k so who all has done the GM deal and which one of the syncromesh dealies is it?
#40
sounds awesome....so which part # synchromesh fluid should we get? I'm gonna try it in the 911, since the synchros are pretty shot. I've got Mobil 1 in the GTi right now...no problems. yet.
#41
Wich Part number is the one to use?
#42
boing. a cheaper alternative to redline is always invited.so, do you get bottle A, or bottle B?

If I were to get one, I'd get the one without friction modifiers (GM part# 12345349)
#45
redline sucks. it did nothing for my trans when i put it in.royal purple did wonders over the redline.....reduced the shifting problems (ie: grinding in second) and smoothed out the shifting....i'd try the gm crap in my honda....if i had a problem.
#46
Sorry guys, I haven't been on the Vortex in a while. Anyways, the one I used was the one on the right with the friction modifiers. PN 123777916.Let me know how it goes. Post some results.
Good Luck.

just my .02$ I went, after work today, to the GM dealer. bought 2 quarts of this stuff ( $9.91 each ) It takes ten minutes to change the tranny fluid ( pull the drivers side front wheel, and both the filler plug, and drain plug are right in front of you ) I dumped this stuff in, and it's now shifting smooth-as-silk. Do it.![]()

which did you use, with or without friction modifiers?

not really sure what that is in reference to, but I'm just trying to find out who used what type and how it worked for them.

I might as well give it a try, 2nd doesnt grind all that much but every once in a while... I have more of a problem getting 2nd to even go in after i've hit over 4 grand in 1st gear. haha. Yeah on a serious note though, if changing the tranny fluid only takes 10 minutes I mights just do it today.

Doesn't seem like Redline's doing their job... Sounds like everyone that's running Redline Tranny fluid is having problems. My brother's running Redline in his Euro Spec Corrado and his 2nd gear is starting to grind

i used to hafta wait about 5 sec to shoft from first to second to keep the tranny from grinding in my gf's ACN tranny. i put the sychromesh in and no matter how quick i shifted i could NOT get the tranny to grind!!! i even found chunks of metal in the old oil after i drained it so this tranny would not have had much life left!
![]()
my GLI has no tranny probs but i think the redline may be gettin replaced soon

EDIT: i went for a drive in the car tonite and when it still cold second gear would grind if i shifted too quickly, but when it warmed up got a little better

Another solution would be to double clutch. It works for me especially when down shifting or shifting in cold weather. here is a link to a site that explains how do it and exactly what is going on inside your tranny. enjoy

Quote, originally posted by Golfdrvr5 » GM makes two kinds of syncromesh fluids, one with friction modifiers (GM part #123777916), and one without(GM part# 12345349). I'm betting the friction modifier is for limited slips (the kind with clutch plates in them).

I thought you would like it, actually the whole website explains cars fairly well.

Well, I am going to get some of this, as I have some 2nd gear problems. Not much, but I have to wait a second from 1st to 2nd, or it grinds.
Maybe I missed it.. but what one do I want, the one with friction modifiers or not?

For a stock tranny, is the fuild WITH or WITHOUT the friction modifiers best to use?
