    DIAGRAMS:
How the motor physically bolts in. For the record....You can use any mk1 motor mounts you want. They can come from any rabbit, cabriolet, jetta 1, scirocco 1 and 2, etc. They all bolt up to any 16V and any 020 no problem.

FOR THE EXHAUST YOU CAN ONLY USE A SCIROCCO EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND DOWNPIPE OR A SUITABLE SUBSTITUTE...FOR EXAMPLE, A HEADER MEANT FOR A 16V SCIROCCO OR A SCIROCCO EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND TTT DOWNPIPE. YOU CAN NOT USE MK2 GOLF/JETTA EXHAUST MANIFOLDS OR DOWNPIPES.

This is the money shot of CIS-E wiring.

This is an older pic that I took about a year ago so some things may not be perfect. However you can see exactly what wire it takes to power up the ECU,ignition module and knock box.

The following HUGE pic was made by Nick Turner aka NTRabbit.
Modified by me on 21 June 05 to make a correction about the coil wires.

bump for good info. maybe sticky it?

  3. 02-21-2004 11:52 PM #3
ya nice work. My only suggestion. Sort the topics between CIS-E and Motronic swaps. That about it from me.

Glad to see three of our diagrams are still floating around and being put to good use. My friend Jack Simon in Newfreedom, PA put those together back in 1992 when we did our first 16v Rabbit.

83Caddy16V I stared at those diagrams forever before I did my swap. I knew them by heart! I ended up printing them and have a picture of those diagrams right by me during my swap.

Later this year when I tear out my CIS-E in favor of SDS I plan on doing a detailed picture step by step of EVERYTHING.

Thanks for the comments guys. Later I will I categorize the posts and make it easier on the eyes

I have a question for ya Jason...On my A2 16v I originally had AC and Power steering and I dont want to use either of them. What do I need for brackets and special belts for this? Thanks

Unfortunately Je2tta I don't have the text book answer. My setup is a non-AC and p/s one too. I removed the powersteering pump and the compressor. Then I had to change the pulley on the 16V alternator and I run one single belt for the alternator and water pump. Back in America I have the belt number written down but that's 8000 miles from here.

Unfortunately "AC" is to small of a search query for the search function so you going to have to dig some.

The belt you need is 10x950 for a non a/c non power steering set up.

The correct factory bracket is this one....It's $70 from the dealer. There is also a special tensioner arm and toothed bolt but I don't have the part numbers for that handy.

Is this the same belt size if you use the original (meant for a/c & p/s) bracket, or will you need the OEM non a/c bracket?

AMAZING Info..... Thanks GURU Jason. Job Well done. I also think you shoudl send into Bentley the schmatics of the swaps and see if you can make some loot. Maybe Bentley will put out a line of VW swap manuals on what to do Good Luck. Tim

I'm in no way a guru. I just love the 16V motor and want to make it easier for people to swap them.

I'm bumping this up because I've noticed A TON of people doing 16V swaps. So I have TWO request:

1: If you currently own or are building a 16v A1 PLEASE IM me so I can add your screenname to a list I will be compiling. Please include what model your 16V came from AND what kind of A1 it's going into

2: I encourage all that have completed their swap to add their experiences to this post. If you want just leave a link and I'll add it to the top. Also that goes for good pictures. Everyone knows a picture is worth a thousand words.

    Good luck guys,

    Jason

This is a list for all A1 16V drivers?

    audioslave33 - 83 gti, 2L 16V with CISe (rocco)

don't know what car the 2L is from i'll just say passat

My expierence with this swap.... label EVERYTHING.. and know the wiring before you start..
Finding a 16V rocco downpipe isn't that easy.. i bought one and it leaked, i bought an SS race pipe.. and it didn't fit so now it's currently being bent to fit

like they say, it always costs twice as much and takes 3X longer than expected (well for me atleast)

I'm bookmarking this! On BOTH of my computers! This came not a moment too soon, either, as I am picking up my 16V for my Rabbit on Sunday after Waterfest!

So, I guess you could say I'm in the process of building a 16V A1.

    Dan/VW_Urf - 1983 GTI - 2.0L 16V and 5-speed from a `91 Jetta GLI.

I will be taking LOTS of pictures of the upcoming pull and install, as well as the stripping of the car. I bought it partially stripped, so that saved me a little work, but I do need to find a wrecker with a couple A1s to scavenge some fasteners and what not.

All in all - I think with the abundance of 16V A1s out there, I should have no problem doing the swap, and I *should* be up and running by the end of August. Wish me luck.
