I think anything over 400 wheel is pusing it on stock internals...

My personal opinion is that about 350-380 wheel is a good comprimise.

Torque steer, deafening wastegate, and enough torque to put a Dodge Diesel to sham

I've been in faster cars, but Halchka99's GTi is in the top 5

yeah considering tizzle drove mine at 17psi.

      to the original poster...
bro: please dont end up like me, or billy...
once you start making big power you start to get greedy...
greed got the best of me, it only took a few 30psi pulls at 400+ to bend a rod...
first sign of a problem was my 30psi pull that only made 360wheel.
so dont get greedy and you may be ok at 350-370whp....

I think you hit it just right. That's what I've seen to be the magic number. I'd be happy with 350 but I'm poor so I must keep dreaming.

Well, mid eighties F1 cars were 1.5liters and made 1200hp or so in race trim with what, today, would be considered really crude fuel injection. So, given a sufficient budget, you could certainly get around there. (There was a VW block based F1 engine, I think they got 800 HP or so and stopped due to budget constraints, but that had a much poorer head). That would require special fuel (Toluene).
Getting there would require replacing virtually every part except the block, head and crank. You'd need to turn at least 10,000 and 60 pounds of boost.

Anyone game? You could probably do it for $100,000 or so
Of course, putting that in a MKIV would be....amusing.

k, im just wonderin beecause im thinking about gettin a mk4 1.8t, but some guy who work with me at my job has a vr6 and the growl is so awsome so im leaning to get the vr6 not just the sound but i heard the performance of the vr6 can be bump to a hole lot but to expensive.

A 1.8T with an intake and exhaust has one heck of a growl to it. And blowing off 17psi of boost with a short intake is pretty fun too.

I'd take a 1.8T over a VR any day of the week. Easier to mod, better on gas, more powerful than a VR6 with less than $500 in mods.

I'm not saying VR6s aren't wonderful engines.... they are. I'm just a little too addicted to the sound of the turbo spooling.

Yeah noise is inportant. There is nothing better than the look on the VR guys faces at a dyno day when a big turbo 1.8t spools the dyno wheels up.
