I voted "Yes" but I think it should be attached to our profile, like ebay. When you view someone's profile, you would get to see feedback from sales/purchases. I know that would be a little trickier for vortex as it would be an added "feature" as opposed to just a sticky thread, but it would be helpful.

So when someone who has never sold anything on the tex has some parts laying around... They decied to sell them!!! But since they have a rating of 0 who would buy from them? Wel will still be "guessing" BTW: we have memeber ratings (but only mods and admins can view them)

What I think we should do is after a successful transaction, simply post about it in the thread. That way people can search under a user name. Much easier, and a hell of a lot of less hassle for the mods, and users.

Yes I agree with that idea. But how many of us are going to take the time to search for items, then read the entire thread. I know when I'm on the hunt for something I'll just read a few lines down to see if it's been sold or not. A quick reference for everyone would be a lot easier and prevent a lot of drama.

    Obvoius510 has a good point.

After a transaction, create a post with the users name(no typos)
    and the item sold.

This way when you search the user name in the topic field you can pull up all the info.

Great idea. We just need to Unify it.
    Either way we need somthing.

usually whenever someone is scammed, they start a thread saying "<username> scammed me!" or something to that effect. So searchign someone's username should let you know whether or not they are a known scammer or not

  17. 06-16-2004 06:02 PM #17
But at the same time, a person can create multiple identities with different emails. It does not take alot to make a screen name on here. I like the idea of feedback like ebay, and yes, everyone would start at zero, but how do you think ebay started? Everyone has to start somewhere. It might take awhile, but it would cut down on the scams.

There are flaws to everything though. Who controls who can leave feedback under a screen name? For example, I could make 2 screen names and leave feedback under the other.

It's making me worry about buying items on here lately, and anymore I try to see how well known the person is on the vortex, post count etc, , but its the only way I see...and I don't even have a high post count myself.

Very good idea man we should send this to the moderators once we have enuff votes. We could have something like with e-bay.. I mean the comments and rating only. We could know who we are dealing with.

Anyone else noticing that more and more people are scammed in the classifieds? This is really disappointing and discourages my actions when it comes to buying and selling. So I was thinking we should have a stickie at the top with everyone listing positive feeback on who've they done business with. At least this we can all watch out for who to deal with and who not too. Then if the mods approve it, it should be stickied in the Classifieds. Or if you have any other ideas or suggestions, please post.

Sorry but there is more to it than to just sticky a thread at the top of each classified forum. While we would like to, to do so this puts VMG at risk of a law suit.

I know that would be a little trickier for vortex as it would be an added "feature" as opposed to just a sticky thread, but it would be helpful.

While the idea has merit it would involve some serious changes. First we could not leave the feedback open to just everyone, because some group of people would end up just going around and slamming people just to screw up their accounts. So then the only way to make that work is if VMG let the buying and selling actually go through us and be like an ebay. At this time VMG is not interesting in doing this because it would bring up liabilities and add to great a need for more man power to watch over everything. So something like this is not likely to happen any time soon. The staff is always talking and looking into other options though and hopefully at some point they will find a solution that will work for the company.

Till then I suggest you continue to do as others are doing and post in one of the feedback threads. I know it is not a perfect solution but for now it will have to do.

In my opinion, vortex is like a mini ebay. Just look at the amount of items posted everyday for sale. Sometimes 2-3 pages worth of new items.

If a ranking system is not feasible, then maybe the vortex staff should require a seller to disclose all personal info before being allowed to post an item for sale. This way, it will install some confidence when buying from someone. Also, maybe there should be a minimum amount of posts set before someone can sell. Say like 100 posts. This way, a seller will have some type of history on the board. I don't think someone will sit there and post 100 times just to set up a scam.

I just recentlly got scammed along with 7 others from the same guy for a total of $2000. We got our money back, but only after 2 weeks of stressful searching around the internet to find the guys information. With vortex having a persons personal info, this gives the buyers, whom were scammed, the option to contact the police, and have the police contact the vortex staff requesting the sellers info.

With the amount of money coming and going through this place, something has to be done. You say you don't want to be like an Ebay, I'm sorry to say, but it's too late. Some people only come on here to search the classifieds.
