with all the scamming lately maybe vortex should just do away with the classifieds.

Actually this *has* been tossed around many times before.

Like Stephen pointed out, the biggest issue for a rating system is that the only people that should be able to *give* a rating are people that have purchased something from the person they are rating. To track that would require us to have the transaction go through our servers so we know who has done a transaction with who and that they can now rate that transaction. This also means us taking and transacting money as a middle man and there is no way we want to be involved in this mess.

So do we outsource our classifieds to someone big like eBay? Or is there a market for someone to build a big overall automotive classifieds solution on a real searchable database? This takes tremendous time and will likely result in having to charge for the classifieds. So as a company we've decided not to stretch ourselves too thin going into too many directions and rely on our forums as a classifieds outlet.

But at the same time, a person can create multiple identities with different emails. It does not take alot to make a screen name on here. I like the idea of feedback like ebay, and yes, everyone would start at zero, but how do you think ebay started? Everyone has to start somewhere. It might take awhile, but it would cut down on the scams.

There are flaws to everything though. Who controls who can leave feedback under a screen name? For example, I could make 2 screen names and leave feedback under the other.

It's making me worry about buying items on here lately, and anymore I try to see how well known the person is on the vortex, post count etc, , but its the only way I see...and I don't even have a high post count myself.

On ebay: once you have bought an item, you then give feedback on the screen name you bought it from. So I think that if something like this were to be set up, then it would be like that, so you couldn't place feedback on one particular person's SN without having actually bought something from them.

    Guys,

This has been mashed around for years. Over 2 years ago I pushed really hard to get everyone on heatware.com as a method that would not use any resources or time for VMG.

Most Computer enthusiast sites use the service as it is free and does exactly what we need it to do. I have contacted the person who administers the site and they even put an option for VW Vortex users. Since then it has gone away. My old post touting the service has also gone away. I know eveyone wants an all in one solution to rating here on the VW Vortex but realistically it is too much work.

Go to this link and see for your self how the format is. http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=1894 This is my evals and you can see that there is an option for VWVortex users.

Why can't we just have stickys at the top of each classifieds section for the parts forums.

I've made alot of purchases lately for Corrado parts and haven't gotten burned but I think a sticky of the feedback post would really help promote good sellers and quickly inform everyone of any deadbeats.

The easiest solution, IMO, is to put your item over eBay and post the link in the classified. This way you got a feedback rating, you reach more people and you let eBay dictate the price of your item.

Starting a mini-eBay over VWVortex would make no sense.

This also means us taking and transacting money as a middle man and there is no way we want to be involved in this mess.

I do not think there is a need for this. What I was hoping for Jamie was maybe limiting the user features.

Only allow a user to post for sale/wanted to buy threads when he/she has achieved 500+ QUALITY posts. As usual it will be hard to track everyone and I am not sure what are the limitations for zerofroum but it certainly would make alot of us feel safer on vortex.
This afternoon I totalled up how much money I lost on vortex due to a transaction that went sour and it was over $200US....not my cup of tea if you get what I mean.

    Take this for e.g.:

Bump, I have seen this happen to many people in the mk3 forums.

Scumbags taking money, not responding to IM's and then creating a new screen name. Granted i have 2 screennames becuase i am also an advertiser.

But it gives the whole site a bad name and rep if someone gets screwed over and noone wants to buy from the honest people in fear of getting left in the dark like has happened before.

    Just my 2 cents

Also check out what happens to this guy for pulling this crap http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/my...1.1.1

i would like to make a sugestion pertaining to this idea. rather than have a feedback forum, other forums utilize a feedback rating system that appears under their name. perhaps this could instead be linked under their profile. the eprson gets a good (or bad) seller/buyer feedback but there is no verbal "feedback" about specfics.

this may more may not have been suggested but i'm pretty sure i didn't see anytihng skimming over this thread.

a perfect example of a forum that pulls this off is http://www.dsmtuners.com .

    its jsut an idea.

Unfortunately, the software used by the forums does not support any type of ratings system or even extending the functionality.
