Sweet car, there was one that ran out here and he smoked just about everyone. I'd love to help but I don't know your tracks rules. Every track is different. Some dont allow any suspension mods, no gutting panels, ect. If there is a ride height rule. get you car as close to that height as possible. In my car, I put 40 lbs of weight under the LR floor and the LR suspension is cranked down with a chain so there is no travel. As far as engine and trannys, it depends on how big the track is. I run a 2 Liter ABA block, a lighter flywheel, header, and a stock head with CIS injection. I smoke the 16v hondas. ( I'm also running enduros) Most tracks only allow 8v engines, if you were allowed to run the 16v, i'd still stick with the 8v.

i think that we will have to raise the ride height as this car has been lowered. i have no idea what is done to the engine. we'll have to put a muffler on it as all it has now is a trap....it is pretty loud.
so what does the added weight and chain on the LR do? is this to keep the car from diving on entry? keeps the left rear on the ground?
for the track that we will run at, you are not supposed to modify anything. i know that some of the other rules are pretty goofy... must have a working radio (audio, not racing radio), must have complete dashboard, working 3rd brake light and the passenger door must be fully functional.
are there any of the suspension parts that are difficult to find or are they readily availible?
      thanks

Wow, so you guys need to be pretty stock. The weight will keep the car from transfering all the weight to the right of the car. It's like riding an ATV or a snowmobile, you lean to get better turning. The chain is to hold the suspension still so there is no body roll. (All of the weight will go to the left front) The Left rear will probably be about 4-5 inches in the air in the turns. What are your tire rules? I run 195/60/14 Falken Azenis tires on the right side. They are about $50ea and they make a world of difference. Then I run another 195/60/14 on the left front, about 3/4 inch smaller than the left front. and the left rear is the stock 175/70/13. It works well. But some tracks dont allow a-symmetrical tires and all tires have to be the same size.

we are limited to 195 max tire width 70series smallest. i think we can run upto 15" wheels. the wheels are to be stock.
the idea of this class was that the cars are able to be claimed for 300.00 (add 150 for cage). they are supposed to be cheap, stock 4cyl cars. i am not sure that they are teking these cars thoroughly as i know of one car (94 or 95 neon) that has at least 2000.00 worth of hopups in his (my friend, who works for a dodge dealer, sold him the parts...LOL). the class was supposed to have a 'gentlemen's agreement' to not spend more than a couple hundred on a car.
we'll see if they say anything about this one. we are just trying it out to have some fun at first. we wanted to get a street stock for next year, but this is much less expensive (so far).
what brand/tread have you found to work best? are these falkens availible in 70 series? someone told me that the blizzacks (sp?) are super soft but only last about 5 nights.
      thanks

I'm not sure if they make these Azenis' in a 70 series. But I've also run good year wingfoot tires, those work pretty well. Also try some Pirelli's or even a rain tread tire. if that neon keeps pounding you guys, then call him on it and claim the car. That'll show him. How big is the track you guys are running on?

i should say that we will be racing on a 1/4mile asphalt oval. it has very tight corners with long straights. we have not raced there yet. it is one of the tracks that we frequent as fans. i have always wanted to race and my buddy wants to get back into it.
i think that when a car wins, the following week it starts on the tail. the neon won a couple of times, then he was a marked target. some of the guys are always trying to door bang him. they all know that he is cheating -- even the track. the track starts him in the back weekly -- even if he did not win the week before. i don't think that he won at all the last quarter of the season.
here is a link to the track divisions:
      http://www.illianaspeedway.com/Divisions.html
as you can see the 4cyl cars are bone stock.
what track do you race at?

I have heard about using the omni/horizon intake on a carbed VW racer('cause I heard it flows better than the VW one-go figure....??),but I haven't heard of that other stuff.......hmmmmmm..tell us more please aggrodriver

    14. 10-20-2004 06:48 PM #39
No VW's come with a air-to-oil cooler so the saub one is a good
find.I forget what year and model it comes off but its very simular
to a exspensive race cooler.Direct bolt on for early 1.5-1.8 blocks.
Alfa lifters are shorter ,wider and lighter, use under bucket shims so
really big cams do'nt spit out a shim. They reqire lots of head work
and longer valves to use.Bertilles formula heads use this type of setup.

Any type of radiator with larger capacity and no plastic is a plus.
A old jeep rad with smaller inlets soldered on and a little air box
(directs air into rad) took the #55 from overheating to never going
      over 175 even in a 100 laper.

what about this omni intake? thats what I'm interested in.

    16. 10-23-2004 04:40 AM #41
It came on the first Omni's that had a Vw motors.78 thru 81
if I remember right.Theres also a aftermarket one called a
MagnaFlow. It was sold in combination with a Weber upgrade at
early tuning shops. It has a water jacket that helps prevent
      heat soak.

What is the tire rule where Scott Lacross's car runs in Wa. At AIS we use the Kumho Ecsta V700 Heat cylcled and shaved to 4/32's. Looks like a Hoosier (we used the road race tire in 2002) or a Goodyear. Interested to know $ for what you race out there for tire price. Car count is falling here and tires are always an issue.
