I have heard about using the omni/horizon intake on a carbed VW racer('cause I heard it flows better than the VW one-go figure....??),but I haven't heard of that other stuff.......hmmmmmm..tell us more please aggrodriver
#39
No VW's come with a air-to-oil cooler so the saub one is a good
find.I forget what year and model it comes off but its very simular
to a exspensive race cooler.Direct bolt on for early 1.5-1.8 blocks.Alfa lifters are shorter ,wider and lighter, use under bucket shims so
really big cams do'nt spit out a shim. They reqire lots of head work
and longer valves to use.Bertilles formula heads use this type of setup.
Any type of radiator with larger capacity and no plastic is a plus.
A old jeep rad with smaller inlets soldered on and a little air box
(directs air into rad) took the #55 from overheating to never going
over 175 even in a 100 laper.
#40
what about this omni intake? thats what I'm interested in.
#41
It came on the first Omni's that had a Vw motors.78 thru 81
if I remember right.Theres also a aftermarket one called a
MagnaFlow. It was sold in combination with a Weber upgrade at
early tuning shops. It has a water jacket that helps prevent
heat soak.

Can you give me a hand posting my race car pictures on the site? thanks![]()

What is the tire rule where Scott Lacross's car runs in Wa. At AIS we use the Kumho Ecsta V700 Heat cylcled and shaved to 4/32's. Looks like a Hoosier (we used the road race tire in 2002) or a Goodyear. Interested to know $ for what you race out there for tire price. Car count is falling here and tires are always an issue.![]()

Someone just trailered home a MK I Scirocco with Neuspeed springs the Euro wing and it came pregutted. Sun roof delete, I'm So gonna kick that Geo Storm's...![]()

Adirondack looks like a nice track, I was going to make the trip out there over the summer with my friend's ACT Late-model but I had other things to do. (Don't remember what, but it must have been important if I didn't go to a race.) I'll probably go in '05, I want to do a lot of traveling with the racecars, I race friday nights at Lee USA Speedway in the Hobby Stocks with an 86 Monte Carlo and I also run enduros at other tracks with a 2L 8v Scirocco.
#54
Would that be the Dodge ACT Tour of 2001 era that did come to AIS in Aug 2001?
That was the 1st big race 100 laps. Busch North runs there 150 laps - 3 years in a row now. kobyluck won this year Santerre won the innaugural BN race at AIS and I'm no tsure who won in 2003 Quarterly ?? Bring em all (the cars) and camp for free. Hooters came in Sept for a 250 lap that Speedchannel covered. So we are growing and gaining recognition. ASA member track this year.![]()

anyone hear of "hornets" or bumblebees? basically stock 4-cyl, painted yellow.anyway, i'm driving a golf this weekend- 300 lap enduro. at night. in the dead of winter. possible snow flurries
![]()
i'll try to post how i did on sunday/monday, depending on if i still have my arms attached to my body and they are functioning.
#57
Holy crap, thats sweet, I assume it's on an asphalt track and it's lighted? I'd love it if they did soemthign like that over here. The longest enduro I've done is 100 laps, and since they aren't too common over here (4cyls usually go 50 laps) they get pretty big.
#58
are you racing at evergreen speedway this weekend? I thought about goin with my hornet but with the recent snow that is outa the question. how are the rules enforced over there? just a select few or is it all have to go by the rule book? do you guys have a claim?![]()
#59
the speedway can claim the winner car for $200 bucks.there are only a few rules, found on evergreen speedway's website. radio must work and produce sound, and horn work. it's the ultimate cheap car.
it was fun. i only made 30 laps because, well, the clutch was gone. it was gone before i really even raced it, and we didn't have time to put a new one in. i was taking it easy, being 300 laps. couple of guys passed me in the dirt thinking they're tony stewart.
around 75 cars showed up. the first 50 laps were run in the opposite direction because the officials wanted to know who set thier cars up for left-hand course.
if it snowed, they were going to shorten the race
how fun would that be????

tidbit: if you have plastic bumper covers, take them off before you race.

Ya I ran 2 seasons at Soulth Sound (Bumble Bee's)with the 77 and 99 on page 1.
Its only $50 for membership and $25 per nite at S.S. It was alot of
fun but they do some weird stuff ,every race is differant, sometimes
its a slolom course down the back stretch,or a no passing zone or they put a cone on your hood and if it falls off your black flaged.I like
Evergreens program much better.Adult and Jr. classes with staight up
"B" track racing. Are you going to put a clutch in the golf and try the regular season?
#61
Caution on the first lap of the season for Mini-stocks at S.S.S.
Kind of glad my car isn't done yet.![]()
#62
Racing over here just started too, my scirocco isn't done yet, but when it is, those hondas better look out. Tim (vwteam13) was leading today until he ran out of gas, I did that in the 75 lapper last year.![]()
#63
I should be posting progress pics soon of my 94 Mk3 Golf circle track racer project. That car is gonna sing with an AWY tranny(3.94 R&P & 1.44 3rd) & lightened flywheel.Got the inside all stripped out;and spent 2 hours with a propane torch scraping off all that damn tar paper off the floors![]()
Got Mk4 rear calipers on it too with new rotors & pads.Shimmed the RR to -4 camber & LR to +2 camber.Gonna put in at least a 268 TT cam,and my fave mod: a Mk4 intake on a Mk3 xflow head. Also gonna swap over to Mk2 front brakes so I can run 13" wheels & Mk2 manual steering rack.I will keep you all posted on the progress.

Sorry but Scott was 3rd in points in the 2004 season, Lane Sundholm was second. Just thought I would clear that up!! Scott lost second on the last night of the season with a flat tire! GO 69!!!
