get a second generation scirocco (if you can't find an earlier one)....way lighter than a MK2 chassis (200lbs) and the parts were made in the cabriolets' for years afterward so they are cheap and abundent.

gearing is KEY.... check out the VW Gear Chart that i made up.

I don't know what your rules are but if you want to be bad ju ju for them this is what your build should be...

9A Bottom, JH Head engle DG550 cam has 102 center ( solid head btw) GP tranny,

Go with TT 42mm intake 35mm exhaust TT adj timing gear to zero it out ( use flat peice of metal then measure on the top of cylinder 1 intake exhaust with tape measure make sure its the same distance on each side to the top of head)

Holly 350 or 500 with 68+ size jets wouldn't hurt to throw lighter pistons in because the pistons in a 9A are heavy and the poor rod ratio doesn't help, if you want some security throw in some good h beam rods IE Carrillo or Scats ( i run scats cause i'm a cheap bastard)

Oh yeah with this cam you must run under bucket shims and grind out around the bucket's so the cam will pass.

And for the love of god do not buy a high volume oil pump your asking for alot of trouble with it.

Oh and if you run the 9A you know the oiling hole to the head.... Plug it and make it alot smaller these engines at 8k+ (which i hit 1/4 way down the straight) Pump all the oil out of the oil pan and can't drain back fast enough... If you need to have your crank turned make sure to get them to turn it 11 under and get 10 under bearings loosens up the motor plus more oil for it to ride on..

I was running 83.5mm postive decks wiseco's but i whent to a 9.1 wiseco which runs around 13.4 compression with the jh head it runs better with the small dish in them its alot freeier feeling..

With this setup i promise those cars would get lapped by you.. and the bonus is it still looks stock besides the TT gear =P ( i run Super pony dirt so this is all legal for me or as most call it mini mods)

And if you can't run a big header grab a corrado g60 exhaust and modify it a little to fit its not as free flowing but its better then a normal exhaust on a scirocco or rabbit.

Yeah i run a Scirocco II

later guys trying to get my beast back together for the KMSA event this week ( don't buy the high volume oil pump trust me two new oil pumps 2 complete failures including the first time locked the intermediate shaft broke the belt bent every valve in the head)

VW supplied the motors/Trans in the omni from 78-83 (the 1.7L model). you can easily drop in a VW 1.8 or 2.0L motor.

The only real difference I found out is that the cranks in the motors for dodge supplied by VW have one end machined differently(for clearance and/or for crank pulley issues) and thus there will be clearance issues.I guess the rabbits have a slightly wider engine compartment;so maybe a rabbit 1.7 may not fit w/o work into a dodge...I could also have this story reversed, but I do know there is a difference in the cranks between a 1.7 that was originally in a VW versus a 1.7 supplied by VW for Dodge.I dont remember where I read or saw this but I do know this story to be true..one way or another...lol...

Gapless rings,005 PTW clearance. Some compression, good cam, 1.8, 100% steel body so far with 100% glass. About 40# over right now. @ 1940 empty.
locked diff, , 3mm toe out rear, 550 front springs, 350 rear , no bars. Goodyear SRF tires @36# PSI front 40 PSI rear .
The little hoosiers are 2 sec lap faster@ Sebring, but these wil work @ Daytona @ 40psi and the car should roll past the Honda by 8mph. Ihope.

hey does anyone here have any extra wheels to sell? I need at least 4 13" or 14" rims with a 4" backspacing;anywhere from 5 1/2 wide to 7" wide..I kinda prefer the 13"s...thanks!

How easy\hard is it to hook up that holley carb? Looks like a 2 barrel based on the single float, would a 4 barrel work any better?
