my monster motor should be ready soon;it's a 2.0L 16v block with a 1.8L 8v hydro head that's going in my 86 GTi racer.I also have dibs on a complete spare engine; a 1.8L 16v ready to go.My 94 just sits & waits until the 86 is done.

  3. 05-23-2005 09:40 AM #73
Every time I do that the head gasket blows. So I started having them built instead, and they seem to run fine. 1.8L Block bored to 1870 83mm Pistons (Air Cooled VW) and a decked head 13:1 yee haw!

well have you been using the multi layer steel headgasket & sprayed it with permatex copper sealant on both sides?? works great & I also use ARP undercut studs.Unfortunately this requires the use of 115 octane race gas ,& a diesel starter doesn't hurt either.

  5. 05-23-2005 11:00 AM #75
I haven't tried that. I have doubled the gasket, and that seemed to work, just reducing the compression. I did all this last year, this year I just have a 1830 @ 11:1, with a 288 cam we turn about 8500-9000 RPM.

  6. 05-24-2005 02:10 PM #76
Do you run a sleave/coilover kit on a stock type strut?
I've read on here that some race shop has a set up thats 1/3 cheaper
than than the ground control sleave kit.
S.S. rules say "stock suspention" but all the mustangs have
spring jacks so this would be allowed for strut cars as this is the only
way we can have ajustable spring height.

well,I want to get a coilover sleeve kit & modify my struts, but I dont know which kit to get

  8. 05-26-2005 01:35 AM #78
You can use any Coil over Kit, I have a set on my street rabbit off of Ebay. But for my race car We take the shock cans and cut the perch off, and then slide the adjusters where they sit on top of the Spindle mounts, for springs we use 12" coils all different spring rates, combined with Bilstein shocks. Cutting the perch off and using this method will lower your car to about 2.5" to 3" at the frame rail from the ground, this is as low as you can go with a VW that I have seen. For your stock class they may not allow this but for mini stocks they do. Hope this helps!

Hey Senkin,Is it true that Evergreen now allows Fuel Injection in the
Mini-stocks? If so has it brought out any new cars?
....also keep you eyes peeled for some used rims for me
(13x6 or 13x7,RWD type offset) Thanks for the suspention tips.

  13. 06-14-2005 03:51 PM #83
Yes it is true. The only car I saw with Injection was a RX-7 Mini Stock from a few years ago, that went ahead and tried it. It made that Mazda SUPER fast, way faster than a Carb. Fuel injection wouldn't work that great on aur motors once they are all "souped up" but I am sure we will see more.

    Kitten,
The silver rocco isn't mine anymore. It was claimed 2 years ago.I stoped building Bee's when the Mains went from 30 to 15 laps.
I'll have a Rabbit in mini-stocks as soon as I get some calipers and tires on it.

oops, did I say tires? ...I meant to say tars.

I just got done having my number changed from #16 to #20.More appropriate for the paint job;don't you think??? (lmao). Also my motor is almost done. Will post new side pics when I get a chance.Found a bad tie rod end, wheel bearing & strut all on the RF corner.More work to do! I love this bumper sticker I found & promptly placed it in the back window of my "tow van" :

Not much work done on the Mk3;the Mk2 is taking up all my time right now.

No good secrets here...I'm still looking for some myself. Only got a few races in this year, and didn't do too bad. Should be racin for some wins next year. I knew I wanted vw and saw this coupe on the side of the road and the price was right, and turned out I went to high school with the guy sellin it.
