Chris finished up the welding and sent me this picture tonight. Not sure when I'll be up to put the car back together but hopefully in the next couple weeks.

Was detailing the parts runner today and found the crank scraper which I meant to leave with Bill... shipping it to him tomorrow. Pick up scheduled for May 7th.

I would like to offer you a ride in a much slower (6 psi) and far less put together VRT at that time.

I would love to. I'll be in town starting Thursday night this week and maybe Friday depending... back Monday on my way from Alberto's bachelor party to pick up. Wanting to not carry that engine to atlantic city if I can help it.

I'll keep you posted. Not quite there yet but the rear calipers arrived today so technically I have all the parts that will allow it some sort of meagre movement under its own power. If it happens this week it probably wont be before Saturday.

I'm allowed to geek out still at my age... aren't I? Finally done at the machine shop but going to be a bit before I can install as I'm moving again... this time an hour away.

Yep... paperwork signed. Just waiting on final word and keys on the 24th to start moving things. A little pumped that I will have a garage, albeit 1car.

I plan on many nights grillin and tinkerin... which means I may be single again in a couple months.

Ran it last night for the first time in awhile and it looks like I need a new fan switch. Good time to ditch the low temp stuff.

Killed my Aeromotive A1000 pump today... grumbles and cavitation. Going to try to contact them tomorrow about a rebuild/service. First 100 miles of the year... still plenty of work to do.

A bit on the A1000 failure:

Date of manufacture stamped on the bottom.
0602 or later - no magnet release problem.

0502 - Having the magnet release problem due to alcohol.

Start by disassembling filters and inspecting.

Pre-pump is 100 micron, #12604. This can be cleaned with a brush and brake-cleaner.

Pressure side is 10 micron, #12601, pressure side filter. This is a toss out and replace element and is recommended to be replaced annually. The sealing o-ring often swells and needs to be replaced on this filter. A 10pack of these o-rings is #12001.

RGA A1000- $210, 1yr warranty which is the same as a brand new pump; in and out in 3-4 business days.

Might make it to Cult Classic... it's a long haul but my pump should be back from Aeromotive tomorrow.

It's looking like a long shot... gf works Sunday at 7a and wants to go to the sand sculpture competition event in Hampton beach Saturday night. Yeah, sand sculptures. If I don't make it down but homebrew beers on Sunday then I think if you check the rulebook, I get to keep my man card.

Page 64, paragraph 6 states that if you succeed in installing the aforementioned new fuel pump and are able to combine home brewing with VR turbo top speed runs, verified by video, then any previous Sand Castle Competition attendance errors shall be forgiven.

Or you could install fuel pump Friday night, view sand castles on Saturday, leave Sunday morning, then be home in time for bed on Sunday night.

Didn't make it out and didn't brew either... sand sculptures were pretty wild. I'm trying to make it to pick up the Jetta from Vermont sometime this week.

Meanwhile, parts necessary for installing new engine/trans/clutch are starting to arrive.

    AASCO VR6 lightweight 6lbs flywheel:

As I told Jason P, apparently they skimped a bit on materials as it comes in south of 6lbs by a bit.

I have a lot of the little parts for making hp waiting on the shelf for this thing... the flywheel sheds like 10lbs of rotating mass which is considerable. Also have a billet under-drive pulley and phenolic spacer for the intake mani en route. It might not be for a few more months but I'm going to be a big nerd when it comes time to fire this thing up and go tuning.

Damn A., mine was 9 lbs and i thought that was to light. I always thought a lightened FW wouldn't give the turbo time to spool up before redline.

And what type of problems did you have with the fuel pump, driveability wise. Mine gargles & moans sometimes (Bosch 044) and i watch my a/f's lean when it does.

Well there is the weight of the car that remains as load for the turbo to spool against. If you're revving quickly with the gears engaged then you're accelerating quickly. I don't expect a dramatic change in spool... although it might be a bit earlier with the larger displacement engine pushing the same size turbine. I expect the engine to spin more freely and decel to be more aggressive without the inertia of the spun weight.

The A1000 was still functioning fine but was abnormally loud even for how loud it normally is; my afr's were as expected even with the pump in damaged condition. I expect there probably wasn't a lot of life left in the pump once it began to get noisy.

Finally was able to pop the new fuel pump and filters in last night in order to bring the car home. An empty interstate late at night is a lot if fun. New work space ... complete with swanky sleeper sofa and carpet:

    UPS delivered today:
    OBX VR6 Phenolic gasket, $35
OBX VR6 billet underdrive pulley, $65

Price was right ... I'm ready for the shave of the front main housing so the pulley doesn't bind against it. I'll post a review if the fit and finish of the intake spacer when I assemble.

Makes sense. I've used the L.FW from day one so i have nothing to compare it to. My car feels like its not giving the turbo enough time to spool up before i'm near redline (7500rpm) It only happens if i'm in 5th. I never see full boost in 1-3 gears. No matter how much throttle i give it. The most i see is 12 psi. Does this make sense? Sorry for the highjack

As for that OBX heat spacer, do you think its worth it? I know you wouldn't buy it if it wasn't. Is your intake temps high? I'm at the stage where i wanna make my setup more efficient.

What you're describing here sounds like a hotside housing that is too large. What are the specs of your turbo? I had a similar issue that I solved by going to a smaller exhaust housing. I can now spool full boost and get the wastegate screaming whereas before I was barely getting the wastegate to crack open up top.

My intake temps were okay from what I saw. The primary issue is the heatsoak from the head to manifold when you park the car or idle. Hopefully this thing works even just a little bit... cost is cheap enough that it's worth a shot in my opinion.

    P-trim T67 .70/.82a/r T3 housing. And i can't get the WG to crack either. I thought i might've had a faulty boost solenoid.
