Thread: 6-speed conversion install -- parts list

    TDIclub link

Note: the gear ratios listed is for the DRW model of the 6-speed. The DRW is for the PD130 & PD150. This differs from the gas engine, since it's basically like the 02J from 1st gear to 5th gear, with an even taller 6th

    its not a cheap swap

axles, hubs/knuckles, power steering line, flywheel clutch, clutch lines, starter may work from a 5 speed, and some time to do the swap

Might lose cruise control function with a 6 speed conversion. I don't have it but that is because I put an R-32 steering wheel in and never changed out the comfort module from the 3 spoke. I hated that 4 spoke wheel. I would assume as well that the ecu will have to be fooled somewhat at higher rpm's that the 6th will allow to function v.s the relative road speed. The guys at tdiclub.com have toyed with this a lot. Since the 5th gear OD mod is fairly common there. Good luck with the project!

    ooo i have a question..
i just had a six speed swap from a 5 speed auto in my 24v vr6. the mechanic was taking too long and my school started. so i took the car back. ok the only problem is the he didnt finsh programing the ecu. well atlest thats what he told me. sooo my car drives but my check engine light is on with the ase light and my speedometer doesnt work.. or my reverse light when i reverse and my middle digital cluster doesnt work. basically anything that has to do with tranny doesnt work. do u think its the speed sensor or the ecu or the wiring harness. the guy told me he changed everything and he only has to program the ecu for the new tranny. he did tell me he had hard time to get into the ecu. i think he doesnt kno how to program.. what do u guys think.. any help

i just did this swap a couple months ago. its pretty easy and straight forward. the only thing that got me off was the disc (thnks adam@unitronic). i installed it backwards and didnt notice until i was finished and the clutch wouldnt work. took it all apart and sure enough the spring hub was facing the flywheel and it needs to face the presure plate. parts list for a 2002 to 2006 mk4 should be as follows:

    -02M tranny
-02M drive shafts with the nut end not the bolt end. if you get the bolt end you'll have to change the hubs. the bolt end is a direct fit.
    -02M starter (4cyl)
    -02M 240mm clutch (4cyl)
-02M shifter cable end links (just the lil black adjuster part on the end of the cable. stock cables and shifter box are used.
-02M bottom part tranny mount. the top is the same as 02J
-all new bolts for the tranny and drive shafts.
-stock 02J slave line can be bent to re use, i reused mine.
-stock 02J power steering line can be re used, i reused mine.

to sum it up, everything works fine. no reprogramming the ecu , no speed o problems, cruise works great, no cels, no esp problems, no anti lock brake problems, car is 100% just like before. and the gearing is bad a$$. with the power of the 35r im in and out of gears very fast, shifting over 8k is smooth and fast. best mod ever
