I just saw a custom Harley Sportster cafe racer a week or so ago in town. It was sweet.

it's pretty obvious what distinguishes a cafe bike, but where exactly did that name come from? did people drive these bikes to starbucks often?
-Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog
I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if its speed dropped, the bus would explode! I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

From places on the 'net...Definition: A Cafe Racer is a style of bike popularized in London in the '50s where bikers wanted a fast, personalized and distinctive bike to travel from cafe to cafe. Many Cafe Racer bikes have distinctive small low-cut fairings.
And here's quite the tribute to the Cafe style... http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/

I've always loved cafe racers, would love to turn a triumph into one. The problem is finding a cheap bike to start building.

Hey DurksterVR6, that Triumph is sweet! what model is it? and is it yours?![]()
#18
That is a 2000 Triumph thunderbird sport with some major mods, not my bike though.Mods of note include the rear fender delete, steering damper, daytona wheels ( this model stock come with spoked rims) , speed triple forks and gauges, brembo brakes.
There is a lot more done to it but you get the picture.
this is mine :

Well...
Damn.
That is an absolutely GORGEOUS bike.
Combines my love of BMW's and my love of Cafe racers.
Hmmmm....
Time to see if I can find a 70's R100 or R80 to do that to...

It's not a photoshop. That's the Ducati Sport 1000 - it's part of a new line of "retro" Ducs that they're putting out, called the "Sport Classics." It goes along with the GT 1000 and the Paul Smart 1000.
It's 100%real!
And I agree with you, it's REALLY pretty. These bikes have taken the title of my favorite Ducs away from the Monster series.
