      Looking good Carlos.

In regards to my front fender........its a stock one cut down. If I remember right I cut about 4-5" off the back end. Used an old ratty fender to mark a better one I picked up on ebay....then a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to do the cut.

You'll definantely want to mount a fender before you do too much riding....the fender mount acts as a brace to help stiffen the forks.

What kind of guages are you running?....below the sidecover. Mine has a boss for mounting a n oil pressure guage....just havent picked one up yet. Chain and sprockets are next on the agenda.....Im out of adjustment. Its the only thing I havent done yet.....besides getting the seat covered.

Oil pressure ands temp guages. I am going to start modding my front fender. I will post pics once I chop the hell out of it.... Paint is next on the list.

There's a lot of thruxtons and sport classics in here. Nice bikes for sure, but not cafe's. Cafes are a custom genre of bike. Don't get me wrong though... I get to sit on a Paul Smart S1K every day at work and I DREAM about running that bastard at WOT someday. Who knows, maybe I'll hit the lotto and get one since it would be nice to have a bike with a warranty once in my life.

Anyhow, here's my bike from last summer.

      It's been dismantled now.

I don't have any sites showing the build, but it's got a modded frame, a GSXR600 fork setup, had an R6 rear, but I'm going with an R1 rear instead, custom tank/seat, 86' oil cooled GSXR 750 engine, rearsets, custom underseat, digi speedo/tach, and a Euro Hella 7" headlamp.

It's gonna be mainly polished aluminum, flat black, and metallic copper accented.

Yes, its taken forever. Yes, I've spent WAAAY too much (the wheels are worth over $1000.00 for just the rims and spokes).

But no, I wouldn't do anything else with my time or money.

EDIT: Found some pics of things since the work started. Not in any order particularly....

      And possibly this sometime...

      Who knows.....

It's not even a cafe racer anymore... I dunno what the hell to call it.

I've been calling it the "Two Wheeled Cluster #*&@".

      Also working on this soon...

Figured cafe guys would maybe like hot rods too. It's a 34' Ford. getting a 59' 389, custom frame, suicide doors and front, chop/channel, metallic blue with creme accents (soooo 60's! haha). Should be fun.

Oh, and my latest project.... and the most fun.

You can't really cafe a CBR.... a CBR is a sportbike, and cafes aren't based on sportbikes, they're based on classics.

There's just a proper terminology thing here, and "cafe racer" isn't a proper term for things based on a sportbike.

For example, the bike I'm building above. It's a cafe influenced bike, but it's not a cafe racer, cause the only vintage component on it is half of the frame and the hubs.

XS's, KZ's, CB's, GS's, GPz's, Trumpets, Nortons, Guzzis, Laverdas... all great for cafe bikes.

You should post a pic of the streetfighter you've got... I bet there's a million more things you can do to that to make it even more kickass than it already is.

Streetfighters are awesome anyhow... they're just the modern progrssion of the cafe racer.

That would be an XS650 - getting a 750cc big bore kit and a 277 degree rephase. I've got a slew of braces I've been cutting and fitting that will be going in shortly. Everything from a braced swingarm (last thing to come, you'll hear why in a second) through boxing the headtube to the top / downtube as well as reinforcing the shock pickup points, and triangulating the area under where the motor sits. Fork wise for the time being I'm just going to fabricate (or buy if I wind up getting lazy...) a brace and rebuild the stocker but eventually it will be running a set of inverted forks - clip ons are a given as are the rear controls which I'm working on at the moment. I'm actually going to plate the ugly that is the rear of the frame by where the swimgarm picks up and use that plating to mount the rear sets. I've also got a set of 1"+ coilovers for the rear with remote mount reservoirs. The reason I said I'll be reinforcing the stock swingarm possibly is the fact that I'm also torn between doing the common Radeon setup or saying saying screw convetional and running a much stiffer monocoque swingarm off a newer sportbike and doing the required machining / fab to do such. I'm torn in regards to keeping it a serious low / almost no buck project or pouring a decent amount of cash into it and updating everything to modern suspension. I'm actually working on the tank & tail section now - when I have progress worth a crap I'll update.

heres the bike (i wont post the picture and sully this beautiful thread):
      http://img135.imageshack.us/im...9.jpg

and i guess what i meant was a cafe inspired bike, because im perfectly happy with the motor, but the cafe look is just too good to pass up. also, im not as happy as i thought i'd be with the bar i custom mounted to it (cbrs dont exactly have a place to mount bar clamps, just clip ons), but i also havent done the long rides i was planning on it yet. it does wheelie a bit easier now though. either way, im beginning to like the cafe look more than the streetfighter look, especially in regards to the headlight and definitely the bodywork (or lack thereof)

Well, as for bar clamps: Check Ebay for SV650 upper triple trees. You can unbolt the bar clamps, drill 2 holes in your triple tree, and voila!

As for the cafe styling, I can only make one suggestion.... put that motor in an old frame.

My dilemma was the same. I LOVE old framesets, body styling, etc., but I also love the idea of over 100hp from the factory and modern reliability. Thus the KZ/GSX-R combo bike.

already got bars from a GS500 on there, with custom clamps bolted to holes drilled in the triple tree, what i was saying is im thinking about going back to the clip ons...

and as for the new frame, i might just have to look into that.

A set of 650 maxim footpegs and linkage will mount directly to your rear peg mounting studs and still reach the selctor on the cases. Search around and you can prob. find some pics of this setup.

you should look into doing some mikuni TM flat slides, the dude from 650 garage who ports heads, jack I think his name is, runs the TM's and says they are great. theyre even better than the VM's though some VM36's would suit that motor very well.

I followed a friend of mine to a huge motorcycle show at Mid Ohio 2 years ago, I didn't have much love for motorcycles, just thought they were cool, and I had no idea what a café racer was. But subconciously I was already in love. I was surround by so many amazing bikes, so much nakedness, so many bikini fairings! Ahhh! My film didn't turn out very well though, and the only shot of a cafe racer that worked out is this.
