I believe that just her front and rear (ha) are painted, but her sides remain black. There was some good reason for this, but I forget.

I don't remember if I read something about her reason... I like the Touareg as it comes from the factory but I must admit that with those parts painted it looks nice too... let's see if other forum users show him another pics.

Speaking of Christina...I haven't seen her positng here recently. Anyone know if she is ok?

Mine are body color from the factory:
Yeah, I know, I'm a smartass. BTW: For those that say black is hard to maintain: this picture was taken after a couple of days of use, and it had rained (really drizzled) on the truck for about a half an hour a couple of hours before I took this photograph.

Nice photo Bob.

The problem with painting those parts of the car is they will look like #$%^ after a few months due to debris coming off the tires flying up an chipping the paint. I am sure that is why VW designed the car the way they did.

Thank you, thank you.
Total spur of the moment thing. Brought my dad down to Oro Valley, AZ (near Tucson) to visit with a friend of his from the Air Force, and these mountains are just east of the guys house. Going home, there was this empty dirt lot with no obstructions.

Another thing the mat black lower band does is visually reduce the bulk, or mass, of the body (except in Black Tregs). This gives a more svelte appearance.Audi has been doing this for years. When you see some of the Japanese cars with full paint wrapped all the way around below the body, they look kind of bulky.
Not sure if the new A6 does this, but that is for another forum.

i painted my back pumper because I had to change it anyway. You can see more pictures here:

There is a way to do it correctly. A guy on the Boxster Board(www.ppbb.com) named Eric the plug guy(as he started with bumper plugs) will paint anything you want on a Porsche. He has perfected techniques for doing rough surface items like the rear mounted bumperettes so that the paint sticks. I am sure he could do the lower cladding on the Touareg if he wanted too. The web address is http://www.bumperplugs.com
That being said you will still have to deal with a lot of chips on a fully painted T-reg. It will probably look pretty bad after a year- especially if you are off roading it.

The side skirts are not only a difficult surface to paint, they also have a hard time with little rocks and rubbish, thrown at them by the front tires. That's the reason my dealer didn't want to paint it. And judging by his experience I can't blame him. If you look at the Caractere body kit, they also opted for stainless steel side skirts instead of painted ones.
He did my front and rear bumper and did a very good job. You must take extra caution if you have the Park Assist Sensors. They need to be painted separately, so they have to take them out to paint them. If they don't, you'll get cracks in the paint on the sensors.
I will post my pics when I have time to take them.

Now how often do you get to say svelte..."oy dat mensch is svelte now since he got on the atkins, nice sweater vest, wat is dat...velvet?"

Your signature says V6 but the photo shows a V8 or at least the muflfler of a V8....

@2yy4uThat's why I changed the bumper, it is a V6 but I didn't like the pipes. When we have got the new bumper I decided to paint it.
