Thread: Review:Alientech Window Controller

  1. 03-10-2005 01:37 AM #1
Bought it from alientech.net, $60 shipped.

It's a small-1"x1" chip with a bunch of wires sticking out and a bunch of and a bunch of Scothchlok connectors.

I has a stereo installer do it and the entire door panel needs to come off. The connectors eliminate any splicing and dicing. Instructions are very good. One funny thing is that there is a resistor on the chip that needs to be removed for it to work: some legal crap so that u need to remove the resistor or it is inoperative(i.e. as delivered it doesn't 'violate' anything like patents or safety issues, I think).

Operaration is pretty cool. With the key in the door, you can start the windows in either direction and pull the key and it keeps going. Closes S/R but does not open it.

With the remote, you can press unlock once(once for the doors, both doors for mine via the Vag-com,twice for both doors)then pause and press it 3 times slowly and the windows roll down. For locking, press unlock followed by lock and it rolls up the windows AND the sunroof and arms the alarm. Then depending upon the setting, after about 5 seconds it unlocks the car, vents the windows anywhere from 1/2' to 1 1/2' depending upon how u program it, and then it locks again! Takea a little while to get the rhythym of the remote, but I seem to be getting it. Has a whole buch od other setting that I'm still figuring out.

Best Feature: unlock then lock that closes everything and arms the alarm. The unlock series is a little cumbersome( 1click,pause,3clicks) but maybe it'll be nice when it's 110 in there.

It's a nice setup that is invisible and high quality. It shades a touch on the side of a 'toy' which isn't all bad but is a pretty neat gizmo.

I do admit that I wish i had spent my money on those beautiful Euro mirrors for $125.

Also replace the brushed alum trim ring around the climatronic and repalced it with the balck one. Does look MUCH better, surprised how nice it looks.

Next on the list is a powered subwoofer for my Eclipse h/u and factory speakers and amp

While i am babbling away, I was really impressed once again with the build quality of these- the deatail inside the door panel including a beautiful tin or alum inner door skin which i can't beleive you're going to find in a Toyota(or STI). It's not something we talk about alot, but the quality of these cars-fit and finish is superb and exceeded only by the world's most expensive cars.

Did you consider the autowindow? That thing does a lot more. Either way, they're both nice toys.

I have one that will roll up the windows automatically when you lock the car and the windows are open. It doesn't do anything else, but does the job for me for only $35 If anyone wants one, let me know

I've installed a couple, as well as my own window kits with security systems, they do work nice. A quick word of advice though for any DIY people. Ditch the scotchlocks and splice the wires directly together. Scotchlocks are trouble over time....
