Not saying that you said this but we can now get over the trading Lester for a bumb that can't get on base was a good move because in 2015 you will just have both of them anyway right?

How can you only get Cespedes for LESTER!!!!
Lester's contract was up at the end of the year and he could have (would have) walked away for nothing. he'd already turned down the Red Sox extentions offers because he knew he'd command big money on the open market... and he did.

      Sox aren't done...

Not exiting but they don't need exciting big names to put together a solid rotation. Winter meetings aren't even over, it's very early.

While none is an Ace, they are all solid starters on very team-friendly deals. I believe that all 3 will cost, per year, what Lester alone costs per year. There is no doubt that the Red Sox starting rotation got a lot better in the last 36 hours.

I don't think they are done, either. They still lack a #1 Ace and they have the funds and the farm to make that happen.

I can't believe that Miley is worth both Rubby and Webster PLUS another prospect. Miley is a middling pitcher from the NL West, how is he going to fare in the AL East? Those two are probably going to be starting for AZ next year, but they want someone else too? I know that they both had their ups and downs last year, but they still have time to develop.

The starting rotation got better mostly because the team didn't have one. Buchholz is made of glass and never goes a season without stints on the DL. Kelly is a #5.

#1 Clay Buchholz, #2 Rick Porcello, #3 Wade Miley, #4 Justin Masterson, #5 Joe Kelly

      That's a .500, at best, staff.

The good news is it's going to be possible to get seats in Fenway at face value when the team is out of the race by July 1. You won't see many pink hats or suits in the ballpark. Another year of this and a bunch of people won't be interested in paying for the most expensive ticket in MLB to see a crap team.

It's been reported that Shields has an offer for 5/$110 but is looking for something higher. With his "having" that deal in hand, many clubs are telling him to take it. "The Red Sox, projected to be an early favorite for Shields, are maintaining contact with his camp but are “highly unlikely” to sign him." He's 33 and if the Sox continue to listen to Carmine, they won't go 5 years.

As for Sherzer, I don't think so. They would only go 6/$135 on Lester - someone they knew. As such, I doubt they'll go 8/$200 for Sherzer. Besides, Carmine says no more than 5 years on any pitcher.

Doesn't Boras owe the Sox a favor? After all they signed Steven Drew for stupid money - TWICE!!

Well deserved. Killed the Yanks for so many years. Interesting story on River Ave Blues on how Steinbrenner pursued Pedro a few times and how that would have changed the whole course of history between the Sox annd Yanks.

Only Sox news I saw this weekend is that hey plan to go Ortiz, Hanley, Pablo as far as the lineup goes.

Picked up tickets to two games for the upcoming season... both weeknights, one in May, the other in July (Pedro night)... grabbed them on a "no fees today" offer from the Sox. Net out of pocket? $104... taking my daughter to two Sox games? That's just pure fun. Hopefully the team is half decent and not totally suckass.

      I'll add to the myth/legend...

I was at an O's home game many, many years ago vs the Sox. I went with my 2 brothers and a couple of friends. It was called due to rain before a single pitch was thrown.
So we headed over to a legendary Baltimore bar/concert hall very close to the stadium that was since razed for the Raven stadium..."Hammerjacks" and guess who's sitting at the bar with a couple of team mates and a couple of groupies.
How he got there before we did??? No idea.
Anyways, over the course of the next 3-4 hrs he drank beer like a guy about to report for prison time, and he was very comfortable juggling a couple of different girls on his lap the entire time.
      We were all amazed!

In addition to the epic beer consumption, Boggs was famous for cheating on his wife and eating pretty much nothing but chicken. He used to fly Margo Adams from California to wherever he was playing. Boggs was incredibly superstitious. His batting average when he ate chicken and F'ed Margo Adams was claimed to be about 150 points higher than when his wife was around.

I don't get this one at all...

Red Sox trade away Anthony Ranaudo for Texas lefty Robbie Ross Jr.
      Tuesday, January 27, 2015

      By: Michael Silverman

The Red Sox' re-shuffling of their 2015 pitching staff continues unabated.

The club announced this evening that it had traded right-hander Anthony Ranaudo to the Rangers for left-hander Robbie Ross Jr., 25 years old, who appeared in 27 games for the Rangers last season, including 12 starts in the big leagues. He pitched in the Rangers' bullpen exclusively in 2012 and 2013. Between the rotation and the bullpen, he went 3-6 with a 6.20 ERA and 51 strikeouts for Texas.

      As a big-league reliever, Ross was 1-02 with a 2.62 ERA over 127-1/3 innings.

Ranaudo, 25, made his big-league debut for the Red Sox last year, and went 4-3 with a 4.81 ERA in seven starts. He was the Red Sox’ supplemental-round selection (39th overall) out of Louisiana State University in the 2010 June Draft.
