Yeah, the Sox's problems will be solved if Olerud is penciled in as a pitcher

Can't pitch with a helmet on. It distracts the hitters

Then they should place him on the roster as a construction worker...and he could build more seats on lil'old Fenway.

He is too old to be in construction, which makes him perfest to play 1st base for the Yanks or Sox.

i was rather excited about this move, but my wife was actually the first to bring it up...why did we sign him? then i started thinking about it..
we have Millar to play in the first 7 +/- innings of the game (and he has improved a bit defensively), then we have McCarty as our defensive replacement...(didnt he win a GG?) who has a bit of a stick as well...the only thing i can think of, is that he going to the bullpen (McCarty) i'm still excited about him having an oppurtunity to join the club...just confused as to what role he will serve...
Big Bopper to March Hare..We're still in the game okay? Understand this, that scag, and his floozy....They're gonna die!

Won't this be the first time Olerud has ever played a minor league game??
Looks like with his foot he can't even run yet. How long before he can be brought up?

He should play everyday. Millar is weak. 3 extra base hits for a 1st baseman batting 5th who's below average in the field?

what the hell you talkin about LB "Slo Mo" Millar will have another hot 3 weeks and average his numbers out I hate that guy and if it was'nt for Ballgate and the fact no one wanted him he would have been gone...Mintkiewicz is healthy and has 4 dingers...

Maybe with the Sox acquiring of Grand-Pa-Olerude, Millar will catch on fire....kind of like how he was one of the best hitters in the 2nd half of last season right after the Sox got Meinkickvzicszs.

I wasn't gonna bring it up, but that triple bounced off the heel of the outfielders glove (error?) and he also had a double only because the outfielder lost the ball in the sun. Really, he only has 1 extra base hit.

Matthews Jr. had a really long way to go to try to get that ball, and still had to dive to get it to go off the heel...I was about 50 feet from the play...
anyway, point it Millar will be fine...

McCarty is gone. Either he'll be traded, dropped or become a FA. Bad move on the part of the RedSox. He is a very good utility player and an emergency reliever if needed. There are others a lot more worthy of being bounced. Blaine Neal is one; the guy is useless.

yeah...rough outing tonite...i agree w/ you about McCarty....i like having him. in fact i have a really funny story about him..
it was the last game of the first Orioles series last year, a freind and i had decided almost last minute to go to the game. we hit some major traffic, and ended up getting there around 20 min after the first pitch. while walking to the stadium, we ran into a guy scalping what turned out to be GREAT seats. 3 rows back, directly inline w/ 1st base. McCarty got the start that night, and in the 3rd or 4th, Raffy hit a slow roller foul down the 1st base line...David ran over to pick it up, and realizing it was foul, looked to toss it into the stands. i had my Red Sox gear on, and a beer in my right hand (im a righty), so i stood up and yelled "McCarty!!", he looked right at me and from about 15 feet away gave me the nicest, softest underhand toss you could hope for. w/ my LEFT hand, i reached out to catch it....only to have it bounce off my fat thumb and into the guys lap in front of me...
of course the HORRIBLE calls that the home plate ump made that night led to Bobby Jones walking in the winning run with the bases loaded, didnt help, nor the fact that it was 40 degrees rainy AND a 14 inning game.

It was a big blow when he got hurt last year in the ALCS. If he can come back healthy he should be a good pick up for what they are paying him.

Yeah. The bullpen is scary at the moment. They call up Gonzalez from AAA and he throws a credible 5 innings with 3 runs. Then the stiffs like Blaine Neal and Alan Embree come in out of the bullpen and throw batting practice to lowly Detroit.
Millar needs to be replaced. He didn't start hitting last year until after the All Star break. No telling if or when he'll start hitting this year. The B.S. about him being a good clubhouse guy is a crock. Anybody over the age of 21 can go buy a bottle of Jack Daniels.
