If they got all those players and still didn't win, Yankees fans should have the right to kill any and all Yanks execs.
I still say the Sox may pony up the cash for Tex and Tek.

oh no ****? i hate lugo and ive always liked byrnes ever since i saw him playing in oakland.
amazing clutch hitter, i hope that deal goes through.
and tex is gonna be signed for at least 7 or 8. true to the fact that i still dont yet see how the whole lineups gonna work, i dont think lowell will wanna be a backup 3rd basemen to youk, hes not gonna.
but tex is such an improvement, it;ll fill the manny power void, considering the kid is like 8 years younger, a switch hitter, and actually tries.
and the fact that he wants to play in boston, not just because hes thinking about it, makes that warm feeling inside come alive lol

Last year he fullt experienced Fenway in the playoffs. It sucks to be on the losing side. I bet as long as the Sox come close to Washington, he comes here.
As for Lugo, ship his ass out. All day long I take that deal.

Was that the same year Tejada decided to stop between 3rd and home to talk to the umps

yes. infact it was the same game, and i believe the same inning.

eric byrnes is such a spaz, but i'd do it in a second too.

"The origin of this was Turn Back the Clock Day in June of '07 in San Diego," said Red Sox COO Mike Dee. "Everybody thought the gray was a bluer gray because of the blue lettering. The bordering makes the same gray look bluer. Basically, we've taken what was the red 'BOSTON' on the front and replaced that with a blue 'BOSTON.'"
The alternate road uniform will be a combination of white pants and blue jersey with "BOSTON" in red lettering across the chest.
No changes have been made to Boston's primary home uniforms. The alternate home red jerseys will still be used, and will now be accompanied by alternate hats which feature the new "Hanging Sox" logo. The alternate caps will also be worn on the road with the alternate blue tops.

So it seems that hat is only going to be worn with alternate uniforms? I do like the throwback style for the road uniforms...
Also thinking about getting snubbed for more tickets tomorrow morning...

Our semi-pro team hats have been that design for 3 years... I'm a trend setter imo.

I don't even bother waiting any more.
I don't know about anyone else, but this offseason sucks. It seems like everyone else is making an effort to get better, but us. Theo needs to get off his high horse and start signing some people.

I'm ok with Theo's patience so far.
There hasn't been anyone signed thus far, that I felt was worth the money or that we were missing out.
Of course it would have been sweet to have CC, but the $$ was ridiculous.
Burnett was another waste of $$.
I don't want to turn into the Yankees and just go buy everyone...
but with all that said - Tex better be in a Sox uni next season

Angels reportedly have offered 8 years and between $160-180 million...

Thats a quite a contract from the Angels, contrary to their past dealings and in-house "FA rules". I guess we'll see how important the East Coast is to Tex

I don't know what exactly the Angels offered him, but the Sox are going to have to at least match that $hit to get him. Theo needs to take a little trip down to his home and bring him back on the plane to Boston to get his friggen physical.
We need Tex in Boston.
I bet they make a good attempt to get Smoltz.

He is awesome against the AL East.
As far as health. I know thats a big concern
But Beckett has thrown a total of 26 more innings then Burnett over the last 4 years. Are you overly concerned with Becketts health?

Burnett @ 31 and a 5 year deal vs. Beckett @ 28 w/ 1 year and a club option left.
I'd take Beckett, and yes - I'm concerned about Beckett's health.
He was signed w/ a history of health concerns (blisters, etc..) - and I was nervous about that, even though he clearly was an ace.
I've got nothing against Burnett - but the guy is like the JD Drew of pitchers; never plays unless he's 100%. I dunno if he's pitched a full season more than once.
But hey, he's not in a Sox uniform, he still plays in the AL East - so its no difference to me.

For the money I would agree with you. For the performance not so sure.
Expect Beckett to sign just about the same deal in 2 years.

AJ is 20-5 with a 3.29 ERA against the AL east.
Beckett is 19-14 with a mid 4 era in the AL East.

And with all of that Beckett averages what 5 extra innings per year? So Beckett is tough as nails and forces himself to take the field and has still thrown about the same amount of innings in 4 years.

I dunno if he's pitched a full season more than once.

They have both thrown over 170 innings 4 times in their career.
Burnett has gone over 200 3 times. Beckett twice.

Again Beckett will get the same deal in a year or 2, and other then about 5 or 6 years ago when AJ was basically out a full season they are the same guy.
I am concerned about AJs health as well. But like Beckett these are the shots you take for ace type pitchers. And as i said before. The last 4 years Beckett has been on a baseball mound exactly 26 more innings then Burnett has, and that player has helped the Sox win a ring.
Factor in the way AJ handles the east, Yankee fans should be excited.

anyone think we should take a shot on Mark Mulder? i think we need 1/2 starting pitchers....i dunno the lack of action this off season thus far has me stir crazy....i'd like to see Sheets, and either Lowe (not for 16 mil a year though), or Mulder. i wouldnt mind Tex coming, but only to avoid him going to NYY. and my last x-mas wish is that the sox/tigers start talking about Lugo for Willis again.....not a big fan of Eric Byrnes, and think Rocco as the 4th OF'er would be a better option..oh yeah, one last thing, I'd like Texas to trade Salty to us... not really asking a whole lot...

when i started reading this i really thought you meant that you need half a starting pitcher, which is just about what Mulder is at this point

The Red Sox are years ahead of the Yankees in their player development and have their pipeline of talent already flowing into the big leagues, and by the end of this week, they may land the best position player, Mark Teixeira (some executives strongly believe the bidding will, in fact, end up around $200 million).

Like I was saying a few days ago......if he gets signed by Boston, that final number will be around $200 mill.

I don't see what the big deal is about going with a 10yr / 200mil contract. Manny got that contract 8 years ago. I understand that Manny was/is better but its not by much... If you factor in inflation, is it really that much for a player of his caliber?

$200M / 10 yr is not the question. $200M over 8 yrs is the question. I don't think Tex will lower his price tag to $20M per yr……especially when Jeter and Arod are making that kind of coin.
