Anyone else feel a little bad for Bobby V? Poor guy looked like he was punched in the gut and had nothing more to give. Every time the camera showed him, its like he was kryptonite.....no one standing next to him ever. Don't think I even saw anyone in the dugout talking to him.

Just feel bad for the guy......I don't think this team EVER gave him a shot and they did their best to make sure it was only gonna last one season.

    Just sad.

I don't feel for people reaping what they sow. One thing that guys like Valentine and Rex Ryan never understand is that you praise in public, scold in private.

Unless and until they learn that, they'll never get the most out of their teams.

On the other hand I think he knew what he was getting into, I think the players did not give him a shot at all. If the team was healthy and pitched up to its capability. He wouldn't be the focal point. A manager can't go out there and pitch. I also think sox upper management knew they might clean house before the season started. He was a short term solution unless he won.

Plus maybe they didn't like any of the managers and wanted to buy time. Who knows? even though the lost the season they traded dead weight for some prospects, and made sure the got a high pick which was protected. If you are going to tear down a house you knock it down and do it right, not pick and choose what you are going to leave standing.

Seems to me they got rid of the Aholes on the team, the next manager should have a better go of it.

Well... that didn't take long. Tek is on staff as special consultant. I think he'd be a good candidate.

    The jokes are already starting:

I ran into Bobby Valentine at the Starbucks at Quincy Market

He made me a venti mocha latte

I'm guessing Tek's role will be to help Ben pick a new Manager, the defacto "player's perspective."

And to get Heidi Watney back since she was bounced from her LA job.

By the way, while Googling to see what has become of her in the last month since she got bounced from the Time-Warner Cable Laker job, I found the first sniff of how bad NESN Nielson ratings have become.

With the bottom falling out of the Red Sox season as they’ve plunged to the bottom of the American League East, it’s no surprise that there has been a coinciding drop in NESN’s game ratings. Pretty sure the only people still tuning in are those curious whether Alfredo Aceves will attempt to maul Bobby Valentine the next time the manager tries to take him out of a game. In mid-July, when the Red Sox held a 43-43 record, NESN’s game telecasts were averaging a very respectable 7.5 household rating. In the two months since then, the Red Sox have gone 21-38, and that average rating has dropped to a 6.64. While the recent Yankees matchups have earned a nightly number in the 6s, there have also been some extremely low-rated games lately. Neither last Friday nor Saturday’s rain-delayed games against the Blue Jays rated higher than a 3.2, and last Sunday’s 1:30 p.m. start that went up against the Patriots opener pulled a 1.68 . . . Channel 4’s ratings for that Patriots opener were predictably huge, with a 19.6 rating, a 59.8 share, and 1,148,290 total viewers. The total viewership peaked at 3:30 p.m. with 1,317,140 tuning in, earning a 22.5 rating and a 63.7 share in that window.

I'm hearing Farrel, Mike Lowell, Bill Meuller, Cafardo says don't rule out Tek...

I think the best bet is to get Farrell he kills 2 birds with 1 stone..Seems to me fixing the pitching staff is the #1 problem. If Tek wants to coach make him the bench coach and groom him. You would have 2 guys who preach preperation and hard work and take no sh!t...

Either way the next manager is likely going to have a young team with a few new solid FAs, resign Papi and maybe a player or 2 via a trade. I don't think there are any big FAs to sign anyway

Didn't seem that way but with a young team it might be a different story, plus you know he was well prepared he had detailed log books on all hitters so that would be a big help with the pitchers. Dare I say they seemed unprepared at times this season.

They need a guy who is going to be hard but fair and stress hard work and be a little more media savy then Bobby V. Like I said Farrell is my number 1 choice, a former player also would work.

Hell can anybody be worse than what we just had?

Francona hired by the Indians. HE was so good in the booth, I'm really surprised he jumped back to the field.

    Will Ortiz be brought back?

Cherrington and Lucchino have already announced they want to keep him here. Of course, the issue is $$$$$. He wants more than the $14.5 he got last year and has indicated he wants a multi-year deal. The Sox want only a one year deal and probably at a lower rate.

He missed the final half of the year and is in a boot until spring training. There won't be much competition for his services.

He will be in a boot for about a week then resume his normal off season routine.

The guy is making more money year to year then he would on a 2 year deal. He has 0 value to any nl team. He should be happy anyone gives him as much as the sox have.

Another report has the Sox set to interview former catcher Brad Ausmus...

"In November 2010, the San Diego Padres hired Ausmus as Special Assistant to Baseball Operations."

...and that's the end of his post-playing career experience. So, if the Sox are willing to think about this guy, why not 'Tek?

Also, there are two players that even Sox fans have to respect: Jeter and Mo. And it's a bummer to see them both injured in what might have been their last chance to go for it. I mean, I want to see pain and grimace on the face of those guys. But I want it to be because of heartbreaking walk off homeruns and striking out with runners on base, not bummer injuries.

Oh well, looking forward to rooting against them next year. Go Tigers

Source: Red Sox to interview Pena, Hale
    By: Rob Bradford

According to a major league source, the Red Sox will interview Yankees bench coach Tony Pena Monday for the team's vacant managerial post, with plans to interview Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale at some point this week.

Pena, 55, managed the Royals from 2002-05, winning the American League Manager of the Year in '03 after having led Kansas City to its first winning season in nine years. The 51-year-old Hale, a former Red Sox third base and bench coach, last interviewed for the Blue Jays managers job prior to the '11 season. He has extensive managing experience in the minor leagues, winning Baseball America's Minor League Manager of the Year in '99 while leading the Red Sox' Double-A affiliate in Trenton.

The Red Sox interviewed Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach Friday, and have scheduled an interview with Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus in the coming days.

For more Red Sox news, go to the team page at weei.com/redsox.

It has been established many times that the team specific threads are not a place for fans of other teams to come in and talk trash.

This is not something I'm making up on a whim, it's long-held forum "tradition."

If you want to start a trash talking thread, of for it, but this isn't the space.

This is not something I'm making up on a whim, it's long-held forum "tradition."

If you want to start a trash talking thread, of for it, but this isn't the space.
