    Serenity Might Fly Again?

Loni Peristere, visual-effects supervisor for the SF movie Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that there's hope for future flights of the cast and crew of the movie, which just came out on DVD. Director Joss Whedon--who also created the canceled Fox TV show Firefly, on which the movie is based--expected that the movie might draw the low numbers it did in its theatrical release, Peristere said in an interview. But he added that the movie's sales on DVD, which came out on Dec. 20, are running neck-and-neck with the hit comedy Wedding Crashers, which bodes well for a possible Serenity sequel.

"We kind of expected this from our audience," Peristere said. "We did so well on [Amazon.com] with the Firefly box set and the performance of that helped us get the movie made. We wish the audience would get up and go to the theater, but it shows that they like to keep coming back and revisiting the world Joss created." Serenity made $25 million at the domestic box office after it was released Sept. 30.

Whedon and his crew are waiting to see how well the DVD numbers go before proceeding with a Serenity sequel, Peristere said. "We really hope to return to this work," he said. "We love the characters. It's fun storytelling, and we all love using our talents. ... It all depends on Joss. He's not giving up on the characters. He had incredible writers who had a million stories to tell, and we're all just hanging out and seeing what the world has to give us, and given the opportunity we'll make more."

In the meantime, fans of both show and movie can enjoy the DVD's various extras, which include an Easter egg: a featurette about the making of the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial that appears in the film. "In the main menu, if you play around with the buttons you'll find a featurette of the Fruity Oaty Bar," Peristere revealed. (From the main menu highlight "play," then press left, which will highlight a marker on the right side of the menu; press enter to see the featurette.) "It's all a lot of fun," he said.

    Good news.

We just rented the first disc of Firefly - instead of renting the rest, we are going to just go out and buy both Firefly and Serenity, so we're doing our part!

Has there been a book series for "Firefly" missions like there has been for Star Trek or Star Wars?

    You won't regret it.

I've converted both my sisters. One of them watched all the FF DVDs in one sitting. I gave her the Serenity DVD for Christmas.

No book series (yet), but there are a few books out there for Firefly and Serenity.

Finding Serenity : Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly sounds interesting.

I've got to admit that I never thought I'd like a TV show like this. The last sci-fi TV series I watched was ST-TNG. I bought Serenity because well, i like sci-fi and it looked good in previews, I didn't even know if was a series first. Well, me and my roommate watched it the other day and now I own the box set. Its a great series and an awesome cast and story. I really wish they would make this into a movie franchise....it could go on an on.

I picked up on the show about 2 months before the movie premiered and I was instantly hooked, I literally watched it like 5 times in that two months. I took my wife to see the movie and for someone that really does not enjoy action or sci-fi movies she absolutely loved it. I had to drag her in to the theatre but I ended up having to drag her back out.

I got both the series and movie on DVD for Christmas and watch them continously.

FireFly/Serenity is my new Star Wars.

I'm on my third viewing of the box set I just can't get enough of this show!

My buddy called me one day and asked if I had heard of it, I said no. I go there after work, we watch the first two episodes, and then we're in the car heading to the theater to see the movie. I was hooked that quick

a resounding yes, theyre great. every episode is worth watching more than once, and more than a few multiple times.

BAHAHAHAHA LMAO That movie looks absolutely horrible, sucks for Nathan. But given his deadpan delivery and humor, he could actually turn what looks to be a complete waste of film into something slightly tolerable. Plus the gal is pretty cute too. Maybe I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD

Got our copies of Firefly and Serenity this weekend. I'm trying to be patient, and watch only one episode every few days, but it is tough!

Yeah, I got the bug a couple weekends ago to watch Firefly. Saw Serenity, enjoyed it. Ended up watching the entire season in 2 nights, went out and bought Serenity and watched that too.

Serenity is a lot better after watching the series.

sad to say it i'm a convert too..

I was intrigued by the previews for the movie, never heard of the series ( I live in a theatrical black hole w/no cable) and the movie wasn't in the theaters long enough for me to mosey on out and catch it..

but a friend gave everyone Serenity DVDs for xmass and i was hooked.. didn't want to be, I try not to get caught up in 'fan base' and 'trendy' shows/styles.. but this one really hits home with me..
I'm sure that for alot of us.. but I can really relate..

Now has made me wanting my other favorite 1st season cancelled western show..
Brisco COuntry Jr. though they made 29 episodes in the 1st year.. which i'm VERY sad that Firefly never got to run that long., at the whim of 'the man' they had to go against their grain for story writing and character development.. and yet still managed to pull off quality and cantankerous shows. each of which is a value and can stand alone.. but are great 'in series'

dan ordering my own firefly dvds next payday.
can't show my support with bootlegged copies.

More semi-relevent rumors from E1's Kristin

From junglejen9: Firefly. You gotta spill it if you have any additional info, please!

I've heard the CW is considering bringing it back as a series, miniseries or movie for next season. Hurrah! For you who missed my message board posting, on Tuesday, Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres were seen coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount, where they are putting together the new CW unit.

From Sarah: I finally got around to watching the unaired episodes of Wonderfalls. I've read rumors about a movie in the works. How is that going?

Nothing's in the works right now, but creator-EP Bryan Fuller (whom I seriously adore and want to make babies with!) is working on a great project that's animated for the Sci Fi Channel. I'll keep you posted on that and, I promise, all things Wonderfalls-related. It truly was too good to die so young.

Finally bought the Serenity DVD over the weekend (after seeing it twice in theaters) and it was the first time I've ever watched a movie with director commentary. Let alone watched every last bonus feature I could. So so so so so so so good. And so sad. Just not ready for this to be over.

New, special edition double DVD of Serenity comes out Tuesday (8/21/07) with new bonus features.

I was surprised by all the post-cancellation Firefly/Serenity products out -- books, graphic novel, fan-produced DVD, etc.
