Just saw it. Very impressed. I liked the fact that the actors were those from the show and there was no "big name" actor hogging the spotlight. Great script, great acting, great action sequences.

Definately going into my library of DVDs upon release.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

if you think Kaylee was a "chubby chick" then I genuinely feel sorry for the women in your life.

I think you missed the point.

He's saying the movie was the "chubby chick" who looks just a little hot because you haven't seen any hot chicks in awhile.

I'm not saying I agree with him, I'm just giving the cliffs notes version of his metaphor.

I've never heard of the show before, and I really didn't care for the movie. Every planet they showed looked like the landscape from southern California. It felt like a two hour TV show to me.

I went with some friends that really did not like the series but they all really enjoyed the movie. Great characters and I was surprised when some were killed I hope the movie does well enough to make a sequel or the series to come back.

Well if that's the case, I still disagree, but apologize for my insult.

    **SPOILER ALERT**

i watched the movie last night, watched the series over the last couple of weeks, loved them both... the characters, the character development, the chemistry between all of them. i started it knowing what it was, a series that didn't get a fair play on fox, and i was very impressed by it, i wasn't looking for amazing special effects, or hard hitting acting, or anything like that, i was looking for a good show, with good people and a great plot, and that was exactly what i got.

you just get so involved in the characters lives that by the time you see Serenity crash you are in tears because you hate to see that little ship get hurt, as well as the people on it

overall i was impressed, if they come out with another series of it, i'll be tuning in

    You won't be disappointed.

Series >> movie, IMO. But it doesn't really find its legs until Ep. 3, "Bushwhacked". Up until then you have to be kind of patient with it, esp. during the pilot, which I found kinda boring.

i've heard the same thing from several "Firefly" fans. they all said it was a great series. i never watched it because they kept changing the time slot it was on.

I actually enjoyed the pilot. I felt it did a very good job of introducing us viewers into this brand new universe. So unlike Trek, and yet refreshingly different and more grounded than Star Wars. But at the same time, the show borrows elements from its best character, Han Solo.

It wasn't awful or anything, I just thought it moved kinda slowly. Then you have "The Train Job", which is ya know, pretty good but not earth shattering or anything.

    But then..."Bushwhacked"

    I was hooked after that.

Well, it does depend somewhat on what order you watch them in.

The ones that aired as the "Pilot" and 2nd episode on FOX were not the ones that Joss had written to lead off with.

On another note, I thought they didn't do the Reavers justice iin the movie. I remember when they first introduced them in the series and it was, no exageration, chilling. You really GOT how evil and demanted and deadly they were and you really got how much everyone was drop-dead petrified of them. I just didn't get that same feeling from the movie.

i can't help but agree... in the show they were viewed as these absolute savages that raped, ate, and killed anything in their path... in the movie they seemed more of just deranged pirates that we never got a focused view of, they moved around so quickly.

    **SPOILER BELOW**

they were definetly owned by River in the end though... what a great, matrix-esque scene, yeah it was totally taken from them, but to see River doing it was badass IMO

True, but fwiw, I'm talking about Joss' order -- the order that they're in on the DVD set. I never watched the show when it was on Fox.

Although the reavers lost a bit of their mystique -- which is to be expected when anything is revealed instead of merely hinted at -- I loved the reaver shuttle that was chasing them back to the ship when they were on-planet, with the black diesel smoke gushing out of it. I don't think a mechanical object has ever creeped me out so much!

awesome scene, Serenity never moved so quickly!

Word was if they grossed $60M total (with North American and overseas box office, and DVD sales) that they will green light a second movie. The whole cast (excluding the "axed" ones) has been signed already for sequels if they are greenlighted.

So far North America is $25M, Overseas is $9M, so we need some REAL STRONG DVD sales to get a sequel...sadly I dont think its gonna happen.

Well I did my part by seeing the movie twice, getting all of my friends to see it, and by picking up the DVD when it's out. I really hope we make it!

Yeah in the series he's a real dick, but in the movie there are a couple scenes like when he's strapping everyone in that let's you see a different side to him.

“In a year I haven’t had nuthin’ twixt my nethers that wasn’t battery operated!”
    And Jayne's reaction to it.

    Another fox massacre.

I'm not surprised by the box office draw. Fox didn't push the film AT ALL, just like the series.

As much as I hate the WB, that show should've ended up there instead of Faux. At least it would've found a welcome home, with a channel that would push a show into the stratosphere.

    Hmm, Jayne quote...
"She has a name too! I call her Vera..."

The quote I've been stuck on from watch the show lately was from the same episode, Our Mrs Reynolds (mmm, Saffron ). Mal says "It's been a long time since anyone but me's handled my plow"

    Back from the dead.

Before Serenity, I had no idea Firefly even existed! Now I want it all!!

The movie was awesome, I loved the characters and the story line. No freaky aliens needed (or wanted) here.

I bought the DVD and I will go and find the Firefly DVD sets too, the fans must not let this die so easily.

The Fans won't, but that wanker Joss Whedon has officially announced it's done. He's moving on to that other series of his, Buffy. I know I'm in the minority, but I can't stand Buffy. It was cute and fun the first couple seasons but just got really frickin old and repetitive. So I'd rather see proper effort put forth to revive Firefly than drag that lame show out of retirement.

I just saw it last weekend for the first time, and thought it was very good. Never saw Firefly, but assuming the series is on Netflix I will pick it up soon.

And as far as I'm concerned, Jewel Staite -

Bought the DVD for my sis, who had never seen it. She's a convert now.

I think the movie (for me) was even better the second time, on DVD. It really holds up well on repeated viewing. I caught lots of great dialog that was lost in the sound mix the first time.
