Thread: VW Fox Database

  1. 04-28-2005 04:39 PM #1
Ok, I got the Registry online here and a dynamic map. . .It mostly works. Throw yourself in there and I'll work out the bugs and make it look prettier over time.

  3. 04-28-2005 04:53 PM #3
Ok, there were more models than just WB and GL mine is a GL Sport.

    Second its Submit not Stubmit.

Third....nice work. Though I won't register until GL Sport is up there =P

Hey, I have a question. It didn't put me on the map in Canada. Are you going to make that available later? By the way nice work on the page!!

    Excellently done.

    Here's my $0.02s...

My fox is a Polo edition, not a GL or a WE.
There's no engine choice for 2.0 16v. Or a 2.0 bottom end w/ a 1.8 head. I'd simply simplify it to '16v'. Similarly, most new TDIs are 1.9 or 2.0l - again, i'd just simplify it to 'TDI'.. On the gas turbo engines, i'd have 8v Turbo and 20v Turbo.

But i'm notpicking - really well done!!

Yup gotta let me know what the other options are. I'll put sport in there and polo as I forgot about those loser cars For those strange engines like you have that I don't know bout. Simply put in "other" and I'll get them added to the list Heh, it's a work in progress so I LOVE the advice.

    The map:

The map is my own doing. I have a database of every zipcode in the US and Canada and it's lat/long. I use that and I'm working on an algorythm to make it show up on the map. . Everything you see there was hand coded. . I know people arn't quite where they should be. SuperFox and anyone in Alaska or outside where we use zipcodes will have problems but I hope to iron those out as we go.

WAY OFF???? god you made me go check. . it's like less than a milimeter off.

  10. 04-29-2005 09:05 AM #10
me why? Anders. I got a zipcode like the rest

  11. 04-29-2005 09:15 AM #11
Oh, I just have to get the mapping so it puts you in the right place as PR isn't in the correct place on that map. Put yourself in if you would man it will help me with the algorythm for that zipcode.

CANADIANS! Please us a US format zipcode, I know you all have them. 5 NUMBERS! no letters.

LOL, and why did I just get dumped in Mexico? haha. That's cool.

Anyways man, you've got a couple bugs to work out, but damn, I couldn't have built that. Great work. I dig it. It's gonna be uber cool when it's all smoothed out.
    bravo!

  17. 04-29-2005 11:54 AM #17
Hehe, yea I saw you in Mexico. . . that was funny. I really didn't get to exact with the west coast becaue I didn't have any datapoints. As far as the hacking thing. Your pic MUST be in .gif, .jpg .jpeg or .png format. If it detects some other file like a .exe or non image format. . It will tell you that you are a haxxor.

  18. 04-29-2005 11:55 AM #18
grumble. I'll add canada's old ZIP's too I guess. . .sigh. Just have to find a source for them.

  19. 04-29-2005 01:16 PM #19
So when do the other models of fox get added? 2dr, 4dr, wagon? And the variants of GL Sport WB GL GLS ect?

Haha 88GL is hanging out in the ocean.

Just give me a minute. I'm using my other monitor to rebuild another couple computers. As soon I get my office back in order. . I'll get that stuff up. Def by tonight.

  21. 04-29-2005 02:39 PM #21

    Hello,

Ok, it should be giving more complete errors now. Along with a MUCH improved map. . Hopefully you'll be able to see it in the morning. My freaking ISP changed the damned IP again and my registrar is in transition. I'm moving my domains to a better registrar where I can actually manage my own parent DNS properly and not have to wait for 24 hours for child DNS changes to refresh. (if you don't know, child DNS should refresh within 1-2 hours depending on your ISP)
