I forgot to tell you guys what else I did last night. While I was over at Mississippi College I noticed that they a bunch of cones blocking some parking spots in front of Nelson. So what did I do? Well, I kinda took the cones and put them in a nice row in the middle of the street in front of Nelson. I then went around the loop real quick and proceeded to do a slalom through the cones I set up. Score. Sadly, if it was a real autocross slalom I would have DNF because I placed one of the cones too close to another one and thus had to skip it.
Who ever knew that preachers kids could be so deviant.

They aren't that expensive at Lowe's. Maybe we could all chip in and order some.
I could also order them from my MSC book. That may be cheaper.

Hell yeahI'd be up for it.... well ... later. Maybe after New Years.
Unless we have a big push to get somethin' going on in December anyway.
Lori, Reno ... I'm not sure about the tires.I'm looking for a # by which to KNOW. Honestly, they're pretty friggin' used with the wear strip appearing even across the rear tires, and the fronts aren't in very good condition either.
Quote » 4) Tires must be in good condition, with no cord or belts showing
or cracks in the tread or sidewall. Each tire must have measurable
(i.e. exhibiting positive measurement values) tread depth at
no less than two points on the tire which are 180 degrees apart
around the circumference, and which are within the center onehalf
of the tread surface that normally contacts the ground.
Tires may not have cord visible at any time during competition.
Tires may not be re-grooved, nor may grooves be added to the
tread pattern where none existed on the original tire.Yay, no cord or belts showing, no cracks in the tread or sidewall.
So I *THINK* you'll get the go ahead. (I know you have enough to run the event and go home; not sure how soon you were lookin' to buy tires though) The big question is if it'll pass Tech Inspection. And I THINK you will. "Each tire must have measurable (i.e. exhibiting positive measurement values) tread depth". You have that. *i think*.Eric uses some tool at work that measures, and ... well basically the wear indicator is at a tread depth of "-3" on his tool. "-2" is the federally allowed limit.? But this region is typically laid back, and I believe the interpretation is "it has to have some tread" for a street tire. That caused the Mustang to sit out at some event a while back, because he had cords showing.
So I'm like 80% sure you'll pass tech. And you'll probably want to start looking at tire options.
Hmm, I didn't look to see if they were 16 or 17's, but I've got some WELL USED 16's at home if things get scary flat. But they're only a couple hundred miles from scary flat themselves.
So... yes, I think they'll let you run. And yeah, you'll probably need new tires in less than a month... but I think you already knew that. You MIGHT be able to stretch it, but I would suggest getting the tires and having them at the ready.

Hmm a usable parking lot huh? Well I know of a couple places.. someone would probably show up eventually to run us off though. I dunno any business owners that would give us permission to use their parking lot though. I don't think I'd wanna be dirtin' it though. Hehe, Maybe I could set him up for rally, but I'm not currently.

but on pavement, oh yeah!
and if we found a lot, and we practiced doing a quick set up/take down, we could learn to move fast before the cops got there to run us off

Hahaha, I can just imagine us each w/4 or 5 cones stopping at strategic points in the lot dropping the cones, laying them out in a specific pattern and taking off again. Like the Set-up pit-crew.If we knew a business owner we could probably have it made.... But if we kept it in very not common locations it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
:/

AWW MAN!Maybe it was wet? It's still got tread. And they say the less tread, the faster the turn-in (reduced tread flex and slip angles).
I think it'd be fun, but yeah, it's your decisions.
Man... wtf. Am I the only Dub that gonna run?
Heh. I dunno if I should be sad or elated?
On the one side, it'll be kinda lonely not havin' any other vw's to play with on course, to know "wow, wasn't turn 3 insane?!" ... on the other side... who's gonna have the biggest cheering section there eh?!
![]()
So the rear, did it "step out" , or did it "slide around" ? Which one just sounds more appropriate for it? Cause if it stepped out, ... that's
. Sure, traction loss kinda sucks... but it's HARD to drift a FWD. So that'd be
.
If it's wet I'd have to say your results wouldn't be as fun as you'd want.
#1979
IMO, Reno's tires were shot after the last event. Those Michelins aren't worth a damn. This car isn't all that convenient for heel-toe as the pedals don't sit evenly.

Yeah I definitely drifted my GTI around that corner. But it was wet and I should have known better.

Could you please explain/define "step out"?

So Ron, what kind of tires would you recommend? I want something that has good traction in wet and dry first and foremost. I could care less if they are noisey (that is why I have a stereo). Here are the tires I was looking at from EdgeRacing.com:
Hankook Ventus Sport K104

Me personally, I'd go with either Pirelli PZero Nero M+S or Continental ContiExtreme Contact since your car is a street car first and foremost. The Contis are what I had on the old car. They were awesome. The Pirellis are right up there with them.
You might also check out Avon Tyres on the Tire Rack. Juan has a set and is very impressed with them.

By "step out" I meant did they slide out like a foot and grab, or did they really just come all loose and woulda spun you out.Brian had a good point, those tires sucked from the get-go. It's just the BS rubber we're given though.
It was wet though so that makes even more sense to me why they'd do that to ya. I think the tires would be fine for an event.
Tires:
If you're going to get some lightweight 17's , and later plan on using 1 set of tires for race, and 1 set for street... then I'd say get something streetable now, with a big # for tread wear. You'll want these to last a while so that you can save for that racing set (on top of the normal replacement set when the streets wear out).If you're going to stick w/edgeracing, I'd say go with the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S's.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...c.jspToyo's I don't even look at, they were eliminated due to their brandname because I'd heard of Proxies seperating before. So they didn't get a fair shake. Tirerack doesn't stock hankook, so I couldn't look at hard factual test #'s. Falken #'s were also hard to come by... but I wouldn't immediately rule out the Falken Azenis St115. And yeah those Hankook Ventus Sport K104 didn't look bad either, I just don't know where to find a good comparison to pick one over the other.
Treadwear was the major factor in my recommendations there. These aren't going to be SUPER grippy tires, but they do have a decent traction value, and as you can see in the Pirelli Continental comparison linke above, they still perform pretty well compared with "their competitors".
Once you get the extra wheels and an established race & street setup; THEN I would go slightly more aggressive on the tires. But they're a wear & tear item, so you really gotta pick your battles.
btw: that's really cool that edgeracing shows not only wheel weights, but tire weights as well.
