I will soon be getting a replacement key for my wifes 2000 jetta.
Since we have no spare now.
Is there anyway for me to program the key/transponder myself?
I have access to a Vag-com if I need it.

Dealer will charge over $100 for this, and I don't want to do that.
      Any help is appreciated, THanks

If you still have the manual for the car the directions should be in there, I know the directions are in mine. I'm sure someone will chime in and either prove me wrong or give you the steps on how to do this.

      In the owners manual?
I will check, but I don't think they are in there.

To the best of my knowledge the transponder must be programed by a VAG computer or equivalant , and the remote can be done yourself.

      Specifically for a 2000, or any MK4?

I heard some imobilizers work differently. Some have 4 digit SKCs and some have 7 digit SKCs (special key codes).

Someone must have done this before.

yep, you need to get the SKC code, the WSC (workshop key), and the date it was created. Ross-tech shows you what you need and how to do it. It's pretty easy.

Oh ok, but he needs to find a dealer that is willing to give the skc and wsc codes. I've heard its a Pain in the A$$
